Yeah, but it serves a function.

I think it makes blood or something like that, I'm not sure.

Edit: If it does make blood, do you think wrestlers get their spleens removed and then bleed themselves so they weigh less?

Body Hair

Strange definition of useless that they are working with - how does regulating body temperature come under the category of 'useless'?

EDIT: or indeed, for that matter, 'secondary sexual characteristic used to attract a mate'?

They say that some hair does serve a purpose, but most of the hair we have does not.

Actually, there was a piece in Nature that suggests that the Appendix aids the immune system, and so while not necessary, it isn't 'useless'.

No, that was referring to the list itself, which accompanied the article. :D

Yup. They can. Do some research.

For example:

Erector Pili

Why is the writer so down on hair being used to regulate the temperature of the body?

Darwin's Point

Not really useless, but not necessary, I'll grant that. the outer ear has tohave some kind of shape if it is to help in locating the origin of sounds, and Darwin's Point is one of those features. True, the ear coudl be a different shape, and still fucntion, but to label the current pattern of the ear as useless is stretching the definition somewhat.

Sorry, I made that brief post and then thought to myself 'bet I'll have to explain that one'... it was an example of an action which is not necessary to the human, but is useful in manipulating the world around us. In classical guitar the nails are often used to pluck the strings, and in clawhammer banjo the nail is used to strike the strings. Just saying 'frailing and plucking' would have been as obscure as my original post.
