Who is the Ultimate Fictional Villain?

IDF

To me, the ultimate villain is Erik, better known as the Phantom of the Opera, The Opera Ghost, or Angel of Music.

Erik first appeared in the 1911 Gaston Leroux novel “The Phantom of the Opera”. He has since appeared in a dozen movies and the Tony Award Winning Andew Lloyd Weber play.

Erik is the ultimate villain as he appears at first and casts himself as a representation of our dreams and achieving them. He appears to Christine Daee at 1st as the Angel of Music. He seems like he is good and manages to trick her. He gives her singing lessons. He then causes accidents to occur that cause the main soprano of the Paris Opera House to refuse to perform, thus giving Christine her chance.

After the performance, the figure known as the Angel of Music dies off to be replaced by Erik's true form, The Phantom of the Opera. He kidnaps Christine and takes her to his lair in an underground lake. He takes her out of her dressing room through a mirror and into secret passages.

He shows that his true intent is to capture Christine's heart. He almosts succeeds in enchanting her with music. (in the play it is the amazing song called “Music of the Night”) He shows his intent to marry her. It fails when Christine removes his mask and sees the monster. It is no Angel of Music, but an evil being.

After Carlotta, the main Soprano, is going to sing again, the Phantom kills the man in charge of the flys, Joseph Buquet in the middle of the show. He then proceeds to cut down the chandalier. The Phantom follows Christine and Raoul up to the roof top and is now the menacing villain.

6 months pass. The Phantom has been working on a new opera. He makes his appearance at a New Year's Ball. He appears as the Red Death. He is more menacing than before snatching the freedom and relief that Christine though she had.

She will get the main part in the opera.

She goes to a cemetary to her father's grave only to be menaced and followed by the Phantom. He almost recaptures her as he comes as the Angel of Music, the figure her father told her would guide her. Raoul stops her. The Phantom isn't through yet, he fires fire balls at them and leaves. He has a plan

At the play, the theater managers think they can capture the Phantom, but he murders Piangi and takes his place in the play and take Christine back down in the lair. The path there is a maze of booby-traps that are very fatal. In most versions this is year the Phantom gives Christine the choice of spending her days with him to save Raoul or leave and Raoul dies.

The Phantom is evil. He isn't like some stupid Batman villain. Or superhuman character. He is a man, a genius. He is a musician, composer, arcitect, mathmatician, etc. His main flaw is that he is human, he has desires. He desires Christine, but he can't have her. In this respect he is much like The Great Gatsby.

He is ruthless, menacing, and a killer. He is very determined in his goals.

He is referred to as the "angel of music" by Christene herself. They think of each other as their angel, but one is never clearly defined.

Christine calls him the Angel of Music, the Phantom even calls himself the Angel of Music. The Angel is a figure that Christine's father told her would guide her. The Phantom figures this out and appears to Christine as the angel. The only person refered to as Angel of Music is the Phantom

Darth Vader. Largely because he has the best villain music. Plus he can strangle people who annoy him from 10 feet away. I wish I were Darth Vader.

Vader ranks in top 3, but is he really a villain? He is the hero in the end. Palpatine is the true villain there

too bad I can't find a picture of him without the mask (the play version as the movie faces sucked).

I heard a new movie will be released this Christmas. It is based on the play version and produced by AL Weber. The only bad thing is neither Michael Crawford or Sarah Brightman will be in it.

I've seen many of the movies, the only good version is the original 1925 Lon Chaney silent film.

He wears black from head to toe and makes creepy breathing noises. He's a villain alright.

Plus, as we see from Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, he was an annoying twit in his younger days.

i'll give you the annoying twit, but he isn't a villain. He would be the villain, but he did kill Palpatine, and he wasn't as annoying as Jar Jar (I don't think anyone can be)

Vader was one of the driving forces for the Empire. He may have had a change of heart there at the end, but I'm not sure that really makes up for anything else.

He is as Qui Gon Jin said, the chosen one, he is the hero who brings balance to the force. He is not the villain for there is good in him

I don't want any soup. I wasn't impressed with Seinfeld, either. My mother watched it, though.

Best fictional villain? Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. Marvel readers know him as the most cunning, intelligent, ruthless and fearless villain in creation. He stood toe-to-toe against the Beyonder without flinching, and even though he was torn limb from limb in the battle, he never gave up. He totally believes he is, in every way, superior to everyone, and feels nothing wrong with killing anyone who even suggests he is less than perfect. Fear Doom.

I've got lots of mixed feelings about this.
First there's Sauron, who is so evil that just being an eye put the entire world in peril, but then again, he's just an eye.
Darth Vader, but he turned good. Great music though.
Omni-Creepy evil dude manipulating the Yuuzhan Vong in NJO. That and he almost killed Jaina Solo, my favorite character.
Palpatine-Creepy evil dude manipulating the Senate to get power. But then, his name sounds like shampoo.

Finally, I think I have to go with the Nazgul. They're evil beings so bad, they have been copied in a boatload of other books. The Skull Bearers in the Shannara books, Dementors in Harry Potter (esp. movie), Voldemort drinking from the unicorn in the 1st HP movie. I know that there are more, I'm just too tired to think of them right now.

Then I also have similar issues, as I find the show to be as bitchy, whiny, and annoyingly moronic as Jerry himself.

As for villians, I'd go with either Melkor/Morgoth from Tolkien's books (taught Sauron everything he knows) or Ramses from the Ten Commandments (gotta love Yule Brenner's acting job there). One could really ruffle some feathers and suggest God in the Old Testament, but I won't be that one :D
