original), and Jaws

Musical- A tie between Singin' in the Rain, The Music Man, and West Side
Story

Adventure- The Indiana Jones trilogy

War- We Were Soldiers

Comedy- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Sci/Fi- Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan

Family- Adventures of Milo and Otis

Animated- 101 Dalmations

Fantasy- The original Star Wars

Action- Jurassic Park
The Atheists Reality

Is 'Help!' the name of an actual comedy, or did you need help thinking of one?

'Help!' is the name of the Beatles' second movie. Downright hilarious from beginning to end, and some good music, too.

"To Have and Have Not", Bogart and Bacall at their best.

"If you need me just whistle, you know how to whistle don't ya Steve? Just put your lips together and blow."

The best movie ever.....Frankenstien Conquers the World (originally written as Frankenstien vs. Godzilla, but even Toho has standards...)

Okay, not really. But occasionally you just have to buy in.

I'm just going to list movies I like, the list is as always subject to change depending one when you ask me.

The Straight Story by David Lynch. I don't like Lynch, I LOVE this movie, one of the most beautiful movies ever made.
in the same catagory:
Big Fish by Tim Burton. Same thing, same feeling.

Smoke written by Paul Auster and directed by Wayne Wang. Wang can direct complex interpersonal relationships probably better than anyone. And Auster, well.....if your into Vauneget(sp) go find In the Country of Last Things.

The Bicycle Thief by d'oh, forgot....Look, I made fun of this film and its fans too, until I saw it....

Salesman by the Maysles brothers. Stunning ealry verite documentary about door-to-door bible salesmen. Fantastic.

The Conversation by Francis Ford Coppala. 70's autuer film, which means it doesn't so much end as stop. Great movie.

The Big Lebowski The Dude abides.......
for that matter any Cohen Bros. film.

The Elephant Man the best movie I'll never see again. Too emotionally draining....

American Splendor FANTASTIC!!! Self relfexive is so often self satisfied, not so much with Harvey Pekar. And the structure of the film, oh baby......

I'm done listing for now....

Okay. Here we go.

Comedy: Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail

And then Donnie Darko and Beautiful People for the best two unclassifiable movies.
I can't think of a good category for either. Both defy the law of categorizing.
The Unreal Soldiers

Return of the King
Troon

Best movie ever is Life is Beautiful with Roberto Benigni. I saw it three times in the theaters (a record for me, I usually don't even go once) and bought it as soon as I could. It's totally different watching it the second time when you know the ending.

Best pure comedy, though, is Dirty Work with Norm MacDonald. Best action is Boondock Saints. Best movie that's great for being awful - Ernest Goes to Camp.

Just trying to make this post is making my soul wither!

Sci-Fi: The Empire Strikes Back, a great study on how Evil can become victorious. Vader rocks.

Comedy: Monty Python & The Holy Grail. The French are the bad guys! "I fart in your general direction"

Action: Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom. I've always wanted to rip out people's hearts like that...

Crime: Pulp Fiction. "Royale with Cheese..."

War: Apocalypse Now. Seen it three times in five days now.

Western: For A Few Dollars More. "I didn't hear what the bet was." "Your life." Bang, bang, bang...Eastwood's cool.

B-Movie: Little Shop Of Horrors. I so want a plant like that.

...and a bunch more I can't be bothered mentioning.

Fantasy: LOTR-Just not the second one, I hate what they did to Faramir. He was my favorite character, he was like Boramir, but wasn't tempted, and then they just made him Boramir but younger. Oh, well.

Sci-Fi: Star Wars:Episodes IV-VI The new ones are just so baaaaaaaddddddd. Episode I-Anikin couldn't act, at all. II-Anakin, again, and bad lines. I hope the third is better, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Humor: The Princess Bride-Absolutely Hilarious. I just don't like how pathetic Buttercup was.

Action: Indiana Jones:Raiders and Holy Grail. I love all of them, but don't like Temple of Doom as much.

I also like the new Harry Potter movie. It was much better than the others. My biggest problem with this specific one was the patronus. It was supposed to be personalized and really cool, but noooo, it was a big round shield that only took form when Harry was fainting. Just one question: With a 200 million dollar budget or whatever, why can't they buy him some green contacts?

Horror-Hmm, probably Blair Witch Project, it wasn't scream but I think it was extremly intense.
Adventure-Pirates of the Carribean ( I loved Johnny in that one, should have won the oscar0
War-Enemy at the Gates
Comedy- Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail
Sci/Fi- Star Wars
Family- Beauty and the Beast
Fantasy- Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers( I perfered the focus on the battles as opposed to the actual movement of the ring.Plus, Gollum was the star of the movie despite the focus not being on him)
Action- There is no Good Action movies worth mentioning in a thread for best movie ever.
Musical- Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Drama: (Tie) 12 Angry Men and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
In 12 Angry Men, Fonda was wonderful, and the focus wasn't on anything but the actors. All but three minutes were filmed in the Jury room forcing us to focus on the characters. Also, I like how the actually names of the jurors weren't used. The whole story was completely focused on the story and the actors involved.
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, I mean, what a great movie. There isn't an aspect of the movie that isn't good, from the acting to the plot, to the sets, everything is exactly as it should be. The overall message of that a little nobody can change the face of politics is encouraging, although it might be not be realistic.
