I was referring to the Terry Pratchett character, not the NS poster.

A half poodle, half Dauchsund ,named Boo, is the best dog.

West Highland Terrier.

To you she's a dog.
To me she's an adopted daughter, who's short, hairy, walks on four legs and doesn't speak very clearly.

I like my dog better than I like most people !

I love dogs.

Ive grown up with, and owned dogs all my life.

My personal favorite has to be the Golden Retreiver.

So gentle, and energenic, and sweet.
This breed were bred for loyalty and a golden retriver would take a bullet for you if you asked it to.
Theyre great around kids, and thrive on affection.

You cant go wrong.

warning:

Walk them often, and give them plenty of excersize.

and they shed.

Labrador Retrivers are great as well.
Black labs, Chocolate labs, Yellow labs.....theyre great too..
You also cant go wrong with a lab.

German Shepards are cool, too.
Thats the only breed that gives the Golden Retreiver a run for its money it the loyalty department.
Damn smart dogs too.
Protective animals though...Shepards make it a point keep you safe.
They can be territorial about their owners.
If you raise them to be affectionate, theyre nearly the perfect dog.

warning:

They get big, need a lot of food and exercize...and they enjoy the art of crapping.

but my personal, absolute favorite dog....

The Mutt.

Mixed breeds.

My dog is a half golden retreiver, half Samoyed.
Hes big..mostly white, and a little brown..
And the sweetest, most loyal animal Ive ever owned.

Mutts tend to be healthier and less prone to hip displaysia as well.
My dog is nearly 13 years old and still in pretty good shape for his age.
Getting fat though he is...lazy dog.
They also tend to live longer as well.

and theyre usually free, too!

I agree with Backwoods. I too have grown up with dogs and while I like all dogs, as you can see, I am a Terrier person. The Westie is all of these things,
loyal, dedicated, trustworthy, mischevious, very clever and great fun. And like most terriers, very territorial

Terriers are okay, I tend to like big dogs myself.

Chihuahuas are rats, not pets.

as are Yorkshire Terriers.

as are Toy Poodles.

It all depends on what you want in a dog. From your options, looks like you're already thinking large, friendly, and intelligent.

I lean towards Labs due to the fact that a Lab/Malamute mix was instrumental in my (mostly) getting over my fairly sever cynophobia.
