I'm going to make myself a crushed ice-pop and vodka cocktail to celebrate my non-african-american-ness

Biggest thing where I was from in Texas (about an hour south of Houston) was BBQs (proper pit BBQs - not the cookouts that pass for BBQs outside the South ;)).
Galveston has an annual reading of the proclamation and a parade.
Picnics, BBQs, concerts, and other similar outdoors celebrations.

And even if your are neither African nor American, the ending of slavery in the US, one of the last nations to engage in slavery on a massive and commercial scale, is something to at least stop and reflect on.

My favorite holiday actually is June 24th, not officially recognized, but still personally celebrated. Any guesses as to what it is?
