Then why does there seem to be a perception problem.

For myself, I don't feel these are great times.

When the cold war was on, I didn't give much thought to Nuke attacks and yet I wonder about a bio or dirty bomb attack these days.

No. We are sometimes non-US, patriotic (to our own nations), human rights-embracing, anti-US-imperial, freedom-loving humans who have no choice other than voicing their criticism by attacking the US administration with words.
