Yeah sure Douglas Adams Hitchhikers guide's a great read, especially if you're in your teen years.

The Discworld series is also top-dollar, and can be read by all ages. I have the entire collection ;) And btw. it's Terry Pratchett...Not Practchett..

I always thought there were 5 books in the trilogy.
Hitchiker, restaurant at the end of the universe, life the universe and everything, so long and thanks for all the fish ,and, mostly harmless.
I thought they were all great.

Terry Pratchett is an awesome author...I must say that although I have not read the Hitch Hiker's Guide, I have read a lot of the Pratchett books and devoured every single one of them. He is the first British author that i have really fallen in love with...

Yeh, there was a book published as 'A Trilogy in Four parts'..then I think later he wrote a fifth one, but I am yet to read that... I almost forgot about that one, thank you!!

Terry Pratchett is AMASING!!!!.....I think one of my most favourite quotes is from 'The Colour of Magic', where Rincewind the Wizard says..

'..Lets just say, that if complete and utter chaos was lightning, then he'd be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour shouting ''All gods are bastards''.'

..it's Great!!!!

Oh, well in my opinion, if you like Terry Pratchett, then you'll probably like 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' too.

yeah, they're fantastic (Discworld)

I've read 23 out of 26 ( ? ) Discworld novels.

Best one has to be moving pictures. I don't know why, but it's just my favourite. Any one that Death is in a lot is fantastic too. He's one of the best characters.

I COMPLETELY agree.... I've read 'Moving Pictures' sooo many times.. I especially like the part near the end (ish) where the Orangutan/Librarian is swinging on the vine or rope...

I like Death in 'Mort'..especially when his entrance was ruined by an 'unforunate patch of ice.'

..however, I hav'nt actually read that many Pratchett books, so I think I'm going to have to raid my Grandad's collection!

Try and get your hands on the trilogies. There is the: Death trilogy, guards trilogy, witches trilogy (and I think), the wizards trilogy. Some of the best Discworld novels are there, particularly death and guards. But the more independent Discworld novels can be as funny too, like moving pictures. (I think it's the way they shoot a cavalry charge, by having a camel run by the demon in a box a few hundred times.

Yeah I've read the Death trilogy...well, two books from it, my grandad wanted it back..

Also the fact that inside the box there are little whips that make the demons go faster.. oh the comedy!

WOW, there is a RADIO PRODUCTION??!! Winner!! Do you by any chance know where I might find them?

I've also been meaning to join that fan club.. anyone know if it's any good?!

Hitchikers was originally a radio production, people liked it so much that he wrote it into books, then the tv-movie/series of it arrived. So, you could get it on DVD, CD, or book. Even VHS. Magical, eh?

There are certain words I wouldnt want my kid (if I had one) to get out of context, plus alot of it wouldnt make sense to them.

Oh yeah of course... I should have known that really, I've been told enough times. Yes, it is indeed magical..I shall certainly be looking into that.

..and if there's anything that should be learnt from the Hitch Hiker's Guide, it's to always make sure you lodge a formal complaint.

You can't complain about me, anyway. I'm on a cruise. Small Gods is good as well. Especially the great God Om.

The cruise bit is also from guide When they want to talk to the guide ceo.

Oh, the 'lodge a formal complaint' thing is from the Hitch Hiker's Guide... you should read it. Hope you enjoy the cruise.

Oh, was the Great God Om that turtle? I bought 'Small Gods' from a shop on the way back from a holiday, and it wasn't until I got home and read to about page 192 or something that I realised half the book was missing... the rest of the book (or atleast half of what was left) was just the start of the book again... I was quite distraught!

I think the best advice you can get is to always bring a towel. A bunch of my friends (all who had read the book, in fact) went camping, Several of them were like "oh no, we'll just share with whoever brings a towel. There are...9 of us, so we need..4 towels!" Well it was rainy, and one of the towelless people fell into the river...and the others were definitely reluctant to give up their towels, since everyone had been given fair warning

I loved Small Gods, awesome book: some of Pratchett's best quotes come from it.

Cuius testiculos habes, habeas cardia et cerebellum.

"You can't trample infidels when you're a tortoise. I mean, all you could do is give them a meaningful look."

"Pets are always a great help in times of stress. And in times of starvation too, o'course."

"Not a man to mince words. People, yes. But not words."

The trouble with being a god is that you've got no one to pray to.

"He says gods like to see an atheist around. Gives them something to aim at."

When you can flatten entire cities at a whim, a tendency towards quiet reflection and seeing-things-from-the-other-fellow's-point- of-view is seldom necessary.

Probably the last man who knew how it worked had been tortured to death years before. Or as soon as it was installed. Killing the creator was a traditional method of patent protection.

Other than that, The death series definately. I just, finally, got my hands on the Hogfather, great book. It's been out of print for a couple of years for some reason, but Pratchett changed publishers, and the bam, there it was. I mean, death as Disc world's Santa, how cool is that

And Death of Rats is the best...

Anyone else here remember the game (http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocom.html)? I managed to get past the babelfish puzzle, but not on my own (though I did get it to congratulate me on my bright idea for using the shirt all by my lonesome). That thing was malicious. At the young age where I first played it, I almost considered it an accomplishment to get out of the house at the beginning.
I loved the first book, truly enjoyed the second and third, but with the fourth I thought that DNA was just trying to get rid of the series.
Which resulted in Dirk Gently's Hollistic detective agency, the better but less well known series, which apparently lacks distribution in the US. But it has "a suffusion of yellow."

For Pratchett, my favorite's a tie between "The Light Fantastic" and "Small Gods," because of nostalgia for the old agnostic rules of magic he had and because I worship Walter M. Miller's A Canticle for Liebowitz as one of true seven wonders of the world.

Oh, and if you go up one level from the game link I gave you, the original radio transcripts are there.
