Farenheit 9/11 Censorship

Move America Foward, a right wing lobbist group released a list of email addresses of movie theater employees so that their followers could send emails in hopes of stopping the release of Michael Moore's new film "Farenheit 9/11" They call the film (which is a documentary concering intelligence failures and other strange happenings surrounding 9/11)" an attack on our troops" (assumedly in Iraq? this is a straight up lie)
and call Moore (and democratic senate majority leader Nancy Pelosi) a "domestic enemy" What are they afraid of? That Moore might get the truth out there? I guess so ...

So I figured that I ought to post the emails here and encourage people to send as many messages as you can to the movie theater companies asking them not to give in to bullying by right-wing groups such as "Move America Foward"

Tell them that there is a reason republicans and Bushites (not conservatives, conservatives believe in the principles of free speech, like most red-blooded Americans) are scared of allowing this film to be distributed, because of the numerous failings of this administration that are the subject of the documentary. He are the emails:

Please send messages to these movie distributers, even if you disagree with Moore's views, If you believe in the principles this country was founded on you will fight for its widespread release. There is aprinciple in theis country which is that any speech which there is not a "significant state interest" in censoring is constitutionally protected from censorship. Dont let these reactionary groups like Move America Forward undermine the constitution with coersion tactics! FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO INFORMATION!!

Okay look--You'll find no one more ready to see this film than me. I bought my tickets for opening night yesterday. And I'm certainly in favor of not only writing these distributors and encouraging them to show the film.

But don't call it censorship.

I got the same email from Moveon.org as you did, and they called it censorship, and they're just as wrong for using the word (and just as wrong as Moore was to use the word when he was talking about Disney's refusal todistribute the film).

Censorship is linked to government repression of words, ideas, and other modes of communication. This isn't government repression--this is a battle between two advocacy groups on opposite sides of an issue. Neither advocacy group has the power to require or disallow the showing of this film.

It would be censorship if the government had sought an injunction against the showing of the film. It hasn't, and it would be laughed out of court if it tried. This is simply two groups trying to exert some economic pressure on these distributors.

Actually, I didnt read anything from Moveon.... and I am fully aware that this does not constitute legal censorship, its bullying... Its saying were going to make you look like you hate America if you distribute this movie. I am very sorry to all the sticklers for legal jargon, but I think you get the idea. In the third paragraph I was simply trying to convince people who dont agree with Moore that his film should be distributed using a littel bit of the constitution. You are right though, I shouldn't have used the word censor its confusing, but it does not necessarily refer to government censorship, Moore was actually perfectly correct to use the word to describe Disney's blocking of the film, it wasn't legal governmental censorship, but It was private censorship, which is at the sole discretion of the owner of the information (Disney) and perfectly legal, but not good. Dont be such a hairsplitter,

Anyway... SEND THOSE EMAILS DAMNIT

anyone who tries to stifle the airing of something is Censoring it in the fullest sense of the word. So it is a matter of censorship and just because the govt isnt doing it doesnt make it any less a case of censorship either.Besides whose to say the govt isnt behind these private groups anyway?

Sorry about the Moveon mixup--I went back and looked at my emails and discovered that while Moveon is indeed calling it censorship, they're not providing the list of distributors to email. Someone else linked to that list, and I read so many blogs every day that I got mixed up.

I agree that we ought to send emails, both to those who haven't decided to carry the movie yet and also to those who are carrying ti, thanking them for doing so.

My guess is that, in the end, economics will determine the outcome of this, and that there's enough demand that most theater chains are going to show the movie.

You can see the trailer and other funny political things here (http://www.ifilm.com/bigpicture/political).

It's got a video of Bush picking his nose too. But whatever you do, do NOT click on the Clinton game.

I dont think this film should be censorsed. I, an Independant, question certain pieces of content in this film, however I'm sure this film will be highly entertaining.

There is one part I do know is factually correct: the part about the Patriot Act and how nobody had the chance to read it, as well as only ONE person (Russ Feingold, D-Wisconsin) voted against it
