No.

He played it via transcendental (spelling?) meditation.

Battlefield 2 does look superb but they screwed up 1942 and Vietnam so badly, I fear much will be lost.

No it didn't and no I'm not.

42 was crap! The only appeal was vehicles.

I never had to hit a Sherman tank in the turret so many times with a damned bazooka.

Realism was horrible.

A rifleman gets 15 rounds? The bolt-action is extremely slow when realistically a trained soldier (or even a green one) would be able to cycle the bolt much faster.

Vietnam is even worse. I have to hit an APC, a goddamn APC, with three rockets before it goes boom. One RPG or LAW could rip that thing apart.

Not to mention that hitting air vehicles with the RPG does absolutely nothing. You have to use the SA-7 or whatever the map anti-air weapon is to do damage to air vehicles.

I'm sure I could think of some more stuff that I don't like about it.

Oh yeah... I thought the M-14 had a 20-round clip, not a 10-round clip. And also, why the hell do snipers only get three clips?

Game balance my ass, that's just incompetence or laziness or stupidity or a combination of all three.

Now I need a drink.

1. never was it ment to be realistic
2. they fixed alot of those other problems you mentioned with the patches and updates

Well that's part of my problem with it then.

If you're going for game "fun" then I suppose its opinion-based. I didn't find the game fun because it wasn't realistic. I was hoping it would be a realistic era game.

And I don't think they've fixed those problems. I have the most recent patch and I was playing this past weekend practicing my helicopter pilot skills.

Still takes a bunch of rockets to blow up an armored vehicle, but a landmine will spell disaster without delay.

So then my chief complaint (a blanket statement that really covers all my misigivings) is that I wish these war games based on specific historical conflicts were more realistic.

Pandion, get the Desert Combat mod for BF 1942. It uses the Gulf War as its basis. It's way way better than either BF 1942 or BF:V.

Yeah I have it.

I hit a BMP in the turret with the anti-tank missile and it didn't even set it to smoking.

You have to agree though that some things in the game, whether it is designed to be realistic or not, are somewhat lacking.

For example., I hit a chopper while it was on the ground with a SAM and it didn't blow up. As soon as a pilot jumped in and left the ground I hit it with a missile and it exploded. *shrug*

The best MOD by far is Experience WWII. Totally realistic. You actually get a good amount of ammunition and all damage is realistic. Not only that but all the weapons in the game are from WWII as well as the vehicles. They've also eliminated parachutes seeing as, realistically, they would be useless at those altitudes.

And bazookas do greater damage based on where you hit. If you hit a tank in the rear or in the turret it is almost guaranteed to explode.

Yes... Call of Duty was excellent, though I still await my beloved Day of Defeat 2 modeled off the Half Life 2 engine. *drool*

www.experienceww2.com/

I must warn you, though. A majority of people prefer the standard settings on BF1942 and do not play this MOD. I have only found about 12 servers that run the MOD, two of which are run by the modders themselves.

Additionally, the default BF1942 server browser does not pick up those servers. On the website it says to use the All Seeing Eye and it provides a list of filter options to change around. Works fine once you get it programmed right.

The MOD itself is somewhere around 700MB I believe. You also have to download the Map Pack because the installation does not come with it. A slight complication, but nothing to worry about.

People aren't ready for realism.

Mostly because they suck at games which are realistic.

Yes!

That's a great game and its free!

Totally realistic. I was unprepared for initial training maps. The first map in this dark room I waxed three of my team mates.

One thing I found annoying was some of the training things I went through. Sometimes it wouldn't record my progress.

I've also heard good things about Rainbow 6 3 Raven Shield.
