There were movies made in Japan in I think the 70's, about a blind samurai, this is a remake.

The remake is going to be awesome. Beat Takeshi will make any movie worth watching.

MEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! I FREAKING LOVE ZATOICHI! Zatoichi goodness!

**ahem** Sorry. I saw the trailer and called all my friends right away, we're gonna watch it on opening night. I've also got my mom hooked on it.

My eventual plan is to own ALL of the Zatoichi movies on DVD, and then start in on the TV shows (I don't know if the TV show is as good. Anyone here seen it?)

Oh, has anyone here seen Zatoichi vs. Yojimbo? I really wanna know if that's really Mifune playing Yojimbo!

The Zatoichi series started in the 1950's, and continue to this day, though the actor who played Zato, Shitaro Katsu, died in 1997 I beileve.

YAY!

I'm glad I found other fans, not enough people know about these movies.

I "discovered" the series some point last year...two years ago? Something like that. In any case, I've been addicted since day one. I now have some 14 movies on VHS (recorded from Samurai Saturdays) and watch hungrily for any sign of Zato's return to the IFC channel.

Known in my circle as the eccentric Asian film buff, I forced most of my friends to watch Zatoichi movies on several occasions, to spread the love. My old prof's told me a bunch about Zatoichi movies as well.

What's your favorite Zato film?
