The President of Beers
The Edwardian Empire

By now I'm sure you've heard Miller's new campaign where they call themselves the "President of Beers" to challenge Budweiser's self-proclaimed title as the "King of Beers." (I'm sure those are probably both trademarked) Just tonight, I saw Bud's counter: They say Miller is inelligle to run for president since they're based in South Africa. They even had the "I approve of this message" at the end (why a donkey was approving things is beyond me, maybe someone can inform me in a reply). It got me thinking about how heated things are getting in a FAKE ELECTION. I don't even think Pepsi and Coke have fought this openly and flagrantly! A quick Googling of the matter yielded this article (http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/05/28/beer.lawsuit/index.html). So yeah... just thought this was a bit extravagant for beer (oh the drunkards will be all over me for that one...)

My dad worked for Anheiser Busch after he got out of the army and he saw this while we were watching TV and we started discussing it. Even before this "President of Beers" thing, Miller had been going directly after AB with commercials like the hot chick telling the Budweiser, "sorry, you're still the king, I just want cold filtered." Budweiser is the giant of beer in the US, and I guess they got tired of taking it, so they shot back.
Apparently not AB is going to start marketing Natty Light against Miller Lite because both have about the same amount of Carbs. Remember, Miller had been attacking Bud Light for being high in carbs. I doubt I will see any hot chicks concerned about colories go in to a bar and ask for a Natty Light longneck though. Miller needs to get in the game with the low-carb beer stuff. I have had a few Michelob(sp?) Ultras, and they aren't bad at all. I am sure Aspen (made by Coors) isn't too bad either. Since both have been released, about half the women I see out at bars drinking beer are drinking wither Michelob Ultra or Aspen.
i think this whole fight with AB and Miller will benifet Coors. Over the last 10 years Coors has remained the #3 brewer in the US, but has slowly been creaping up on #1 AB and #2 Miller.

I think the warring commercials are highly amusing.
I'm glad those people have a sense of humor.

yeah, going all the way back to those commercials, too. i remember every one of them now that you mention them. i can scarcely think of another market where competition is so fiercely direct.
and yes, they are amusing.

Coke controls a major portion of the market, dominating Pepsi.

Um, no.
As far as regular can and bottle sales are concerned, Pepsi is now pretty much tied with Coke. On overall sales though, Coke still kills Pepsi because of fountian sales. Only 3 major fast food restraunts carry Pepsi (KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell), and the rest are where Coke makes the sales. Also, have you ever gone to a bar and ordered a Jack and Pepsi? Thats also where coke makes alot more than Pepsi.

I don't care about beer (stuff is uber nasty), but Coke rules Pepsi all the way. My high school signed a contract with Pepsi during my third year, but my university has one with Coke 8)

Bud, Miller, Coors--they're all crap anyway.
Anchor Brewing makes the best beer I've ever had in the US (Steam, Liberty Ale, Porter, Old Foghorn). New Belgium Brewing (Colorado--they make Fat Tire Ale) is also good, as is Abita Brewing (Louisiana--they make TurboDog).
Anything that's mass produced at the levels that companies like Miller or Coors or Anheuser Busch produces it is utter crap.
