Garfield's just....awesome

Although I'm not sure about his movie (already out here in the U.S.)

I think I am the one who have the bloody Boy Scouts the idea to make products along with Garfield after I asked them to say a little something on Garfield. Damn them for giving me no credit. Damn them.

CALVIN AND HOBBES

ahh i used those books as my readers in kindergarden and first grade... loved 'em since.

when i was 6, i thought i was going to marry calvin.
my logic was this:
he is 6, i am 6.
he likes tigers, i like tigers. hey, i even have a cat named tiger.
he likes cookies, i like cookies.

it was meant to be.

Yeah, how could you leave out Calvin & Hobbes?

You're right, Garfield is basically a million variations of about five or six strips (he eats, sleeps, watches TV, and kicks Odie, what am I missing?). Every once in a while he'll get a good one. I've heard Jim Davis doesn't even write them anymore.

Calvin and Hobbes was much better. I suppose you could say it's all 'kill Susie, sleep in class, annoy mom, and wagon rides' but it always still felt original and not like we've seen it a million times before.

Anyway enough of my ranting.
Avia
15-06-2004, 06:50
Also, Calvin and Hobbes was intelligent. Calvin was constantly far smarter than everyone else.. getting into everything from politics to social satire to parenthood. Yet, he still couldn't add at all, so maybe that says something about the public school system?

Always admired watterson...

That's the end of my ranting too.

Holy crap! You've got awesome taste. I'd put Sherman's Lagoon and Get Fuzzy as my two favourite current paper comics.

But I think most paper comics are absolute drek, and I especially dislike how the worst of them won't die.

I'm much more interested in internet comics. Penny Arcade, PvP, 8-Bit Theater, Questionable Content, and Under Power to name a few.
Cannot think of a name
15-06-2004, 09:02
You've gotta admire them. Year after year, month after month, week after week, day in, day out they do it. They find a new way to say the same thing: Little Billie has a hard time making it straight home, the husband is a womanizing alchoholic and the wife a horrible driver, Mondays spiders cute kittens suck and lasagna napping warm spots and food in general are great. Why, the artists behind Family Circus, The Lockhorns, and Garfield are genius' of an unqualified calibur to be able to find so many ways to say the same thing.

C&H have been covered, as well as Bloom County mentioned. That leaves only for me to mention Mr. Boffo:

I like "Get Fuzzy" a lot.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of webcomics, they seem to be more funny, and a lot more personal. Especially since the serious webcomic artists include other features relating to their comic on their websites.

well for comercial sydication i'd have to say doonsberry.

there are though many webcomics that come to mind.

too many to list them all or choose favorites.

well most of the one's i know or care about are furry, like gene catlow, or freefall. those are a couple of the best.

then there's spoontoon.rootoon.com (not sure if i spelled that right) a favorite little island hideaway archipelligo that i visit from time to time.

underground back in the 70s was of course the fabulous furry freek brothers.

like i say i can't really say as i have any one favorite and i can't remember half the names of all the wonderful ones i think are great
