Immaturity, Absurdity and the American Way

Right-Wing Fantasy

I, Right-Wing Fantasy, have been accused of being immature. It may be hard for some of you to believe, but this is because my nation is not really conservative. I post stereotypical whacko-right responses on political and social issues, often accusing people of being communist homosexuals. Is this immature? Yes. However, I'm only responding to the immaturity and absurdity of what passes as politics in the USA.

Our nation is divided into 2 camps: "liberal" and "conservative." You must belong to one or the other, and you must believe with all your heart that the other is wrong. If you choose to be liberal, you must tolerate being called a hippy, a communist, a terrorist sympathizer, or a traitor. Your sexuality will also most likely be called into question. You may not be Christian. If you are a conservative, you must tolerate being called a heartless fascist, sellout to big business and a religous fanatic.

Each side takes issues that you must agree with. Liberals must be pro-life, conservatives pro-choice (not pro-abortion, anti-abortion, mind you.) Liberals must be pro-environment and anti-business, conservatives must be anti-environment and pro-business (because it's IMPOSSIBLE to be both.) Every issue must have two sides: liberal and conservative.

These debates stretch back into history. Ask any liberal if Ronald Reagan really ended the Cold War, and they'll blow a gasket. Ask conservatives if FDR really ended the Depression and they'll launch into a storm of bullshit about trickle-down economics.

Look at the presidential campaign. Bush's desertion from the National Guard (let's call it what it is) has turned into a hot-button issue. I'm 17, and I'll never get a job in my life if people judge me by what I'm up to these days. John Kerry's anti-war activities have come under similar scrutiny. So what if he was a radical? He should be applauded for being so passionate about politics at such a young age.

I hate to pick on the right, but look at Anne Coulter's book "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism." Are you kidding me? If half the country (yes, half the country is liberal, the other half is conservative,) really wanted our nation to crumble under the Soviet jackboot, it would have happened. If hippies and trade unionists took common cause with Osama, there'd be a civil war, not one isolated terrorist incident. This book was a best seller. So was Al Franken's "Lying Liars." I love Al's comedy, but calling the leaders of our country a bunch of crooks is far fetched and libelous.

So, before you condemn ol' Right-Wing Fantasy for acting childish, look at yourselves. Are you just a mindless cheerleader for your little "team?" Ask yourself, do you care about our country and want the best for it, is that why you hate the other side so much? Do you put your duty as a citizen to select a just and fair government by the wayside to participate in our little political Superbowl?

It good to see someone who can attempt to be objective about things, keep it up. Isnt it funny how many people are immune to sarcasm? and unable to recognize flamebaiting... You must have fun with that nation...

Well thats fascinating..but the fact that there is a horde of grey area between "liberal" and "conservative," which are ambiguous terms, by the way, voids your whole point.

America isn't completely split. It still has a handful of independents. Which, in my opinion, have a higher percentile of people who know what they are talking about than any other political party. Sure, I may opt for enviroment over business, but that doesn't automatically mean I'm pro-life (I'm not.)
But overall, I think you hit the nail on the head. Kudos on that. I did notice a few conservative bashes missing though, like rascist.

The difference between the libs and consies is greatly exagerated. Do any of them advocate truely radical or reactionary changes? How many democrats have proposed nationalizing industry? Compared to the various types of anarchism that rarely divide anarchists in fighting hierarchy, the libs and consies are pretty much the same.

Anarchists differ on issues like whether the market itself is inherently bad or whether to abolish money. The libs and consies argue over whether taxes should be 10% or 20%.

I hear liberals say they are pro-environment...I just never see them doing anything about it :P, but thats the case with most things, in either party, with the possible exception of the President, whos gotten lots of people pissed off for actually doing something he said he would...
Not that it matters.

Anyway, I've said it before...

liberals are pro-choice an conservatives are pro life and anti homosexual
and I can see both sides of most arguements and yes i can be both and im not seen as a trator or flipfloper but for the most part you are correct about the current statues of our country.

I am a hard core liberal, but not becuase I attest allegance to a party. After rejecting notions like religions dotrine and faulty logic that I knew were ridculous, I was left with a cold, hard, arguing system. All I had to do then was determine what the arguing system said about major political and philisophical ideas, I basically recreated the entire retoric of a democratic liberal socialist like myself. I'm not kidding.

I'm with Letila on this: become some variety of libertarian or anarchist. Preferably a capitalist minarchist (here Letila and I part company). But basically if you realize that "liberty" is the most important word of "Liberal Democracy" you will be on the right track. Mind your own business, and insist other people do the same.

Now your post in my thread makes since. That is pretty funny really. You have to watch out though. There are not a whole lot of people with a good sense of humor on this site. I also ask you this question: What if you are a conservative who believes that FDR did get us out of the Great Depression? I know I am.

Well, then you're doomed because tomorrow morning both Barbara Streisand AND Ann Coulter will be on your doorstep. Ann to smack you over the head with her Bible and Barbara to torture you with her singing.

You've made enemies on both sides, young caterpillar.....though must survive with paranoia henceforth!

You're right. I was sort of overcaffeinated and hungover when I wrote this, so there are a couple minor errors and a couple parts where I sound like an idiot.
