Land Before Time series - liberal propaganda?

I was just channel-hopping while waiting for the hourly news bulletin, and I caught a couple of minutes of The Land Before Time n: The Twee Sentimentality Returns Yet Again.

And this got me thinking. Anyone noticed how all the main character dinosaurs are herbivores, and all the carnivorous ones are 2D extras whose character development only extends to going "Grr! Arrrg!" and trying to eat the "good guys"?

This is going out to kids at an impressionable age. Is it a conspiracy theory too far, or out of place in this forum, to suggest that this may reflect a leftie vegetarian lobby agenda?

Who knows?

And another thought has occurred to me - the race mixing should be obvious. Would all those dinosaurs really be in the same herd? Especially as some are from different geological eras?

Bizzare, then again with PlaySchool showing a lesbian couple taking their daughter to the park, it's a trend that other kid's shows are following.

No sure if it's a bad one though...

Hmm....TG.....I think that you may be reading far too much into it. You sound like a mad right-winger!

Tactical Grace, no offence, but your picking it apart too much - seeing what you wish to see, in effect. Look at many cartoons, past and present. The cat is the villian and the bird or mouse is the "good guy". Carnivours are often portrayed as the bad guys. It's a given.

And yes, those dinosaurs do come from different geological areas. For example, Apatosaurs (late Jurassic/Morrison formation) was long extinct by the time Triceratops or Tyrannosaurs Rex (upper most Cretaceous (Hell Creek/Lance formations etc...) came into existance. In short, many of the species are seprated by (at least) millions of years, and in some cases, tens of millions.

It's for children, it's not supposted to be accurate at all. Try not to "read to much" into it.

The important thing is: only let your children watch the first one, which was good. The others are no better than the-evil-that-is-Barney.

You've got a point though about dehumanising (if that makes sense when talking about dinosaurs) the carnivores. I don't think it's a pro-veggie message, more an anti-things-trying-to-kill-sentient-being message - the herbivores in The Land Before Time aren't dumb cows (I hate cows...) but sentient beings, so they've got to portray the carnivores as evil.

TG, you don't need to look that far for liberal messages being implanted in children's minds. Does anyone remember "Captain Planet"? If thats not a liberal made cartoon, then I don't know what is.

I think I do. That sort of thing makes me cringe nearly as much as He-Man, assorted manga people and Star Trek characters saying "Kids, don't do drugs!" at the end of every episode. Well, not Star Trek, they managed to put it into the middle of an episode. Ugh.

EDIT: I am actually quite conservative on drugs policy, but that sort of content is just stupid.

EDIT: I also believe that Gundam SEED is liberal propaganda. Coordinators (genetically enhanced humans), while portrayed as "evil" (or at least Le Creuset and the Coordinator gov't), they are simply fighting for their right to exist
