CNN among other news agencies have reported that Kerry has asked McCain if he'd consider being his running mate if Kerry asked him to be. The idea being to put a joint democrat-republican ticket against Bush. It's been reported that McCain has said he wouldn't be interested.

Should he be? Would you vote for Kerry-McCain?

Well, it won't happen to begin with. That rumor has been floated for weeks now and McCain has denied it every time.

As a Democrat, I'm getting a little tired of it frankly. McCain is a good and honorable man, but he's also too conservative for my tastes on many issues. There are two other problems with a McCain vice-presidency.

First--he'd be president of the Senate, and I don't know how he'd vote in the event that he'd be forced to break a tie. Would presidential or party loyalty come first?

Secondly--he'd be one step away from the Presidency, and some loony right-wing nut might think that a line-crossing McCain would still be a better president than a Democratic party Kerry and try to take Kerry out.

So I think Kerry needs to pick a Democrat, and there are plenty of good people to choose from.

What does everyone think about Kerry-Edwards?

I would wish it was Edwards-Kerry. *sigh* But it would improve my odds of voting for Kerry. Somewhat.

Some loony left-wing nut would try to kill McCain before Kerry was ever in danger.

Somewhat.Well, there's no way to improve my odds for voting for Kerry, but Edwards would please me as a VP candidate a lot more than Gephardt or Vilsack or even Wes Clark, just to name some of the other contenders.
