A recent poll by the Gallup organization shows that, overwhelmingly, the polled see Kennedy, FDR, and Reagan as the top three most recent presidents, followed by GHWBush, Clinton, Carter, Ford, Johnson, GWBush, and Finally, Nixon.

Note that clinton, GH and GW are all up there. They are probably only there because of lingering partisanship

Dubya as the second worst president (after Nixon) sounds about right to me.

GW isn't up there, This is recent polls, which puts GW above only(Although substansially) Nixon.

You'll notice theres a 15 point difference between GHB and GWB, compared to the 30 between GWB and nixon and the 40 between GHB and Reagan, and another 27 point jump between Reagan and FDR.

Nixon gets a really bad Rap.

If you were to remove the whole Watergate thing, I think he would be one of the most highly thought of presidents of the past fifty years.

Unfortunately, it was a huge scandal, and he got what he deserved.

He woulda won the election without the breaking and entering, robbery, conspiracy, etc., but he had to be stupid about it

Well its just that there are paralells between the two. And considering Nixons Administration has a fair few links to the current one. Will we see a repeat of history?

He was actually fairly good, except for Watergate.

Clinton was a pretty good president, I think most people stopped caring that he lied underoath simply due to what the lie was about.

If Watergate actually found evidence of what it was for, a land scam then things would of been alot different.

Question:

Just because a bunch of people BELIEVE something is true, does that make it true?

The funny thing is..if you forget his stupidity concerning the BJ incident, and actually focus on his accomplishments, you begin to see that he really was one of, if not THE most effective Presidents of the 20th Century.
The high ratings he recieved on that poll are a tribute to that.
However, they were not higher due to his being a dumbass, and lying about getting a hummer, and of course.....the right-wing propoganda machine.

For instance....

Under Clinton...the US experienced its largest period of economic growth...ever.

thats just one.

My opinion is.....F.D.R...Kennedy....Clinton...Reagan.

and Dubya..at the very bottom of the list.

Yes.

Belief shapes reality.
or..as I like to say..

Reality is perception.

Crelm, I'm fully aware of the Amazing Randi's Organization, and believe him to be one of the single smartest people alive today.

I said nothing about who was the best president, simply who the polled public thought was the best president

Um, just so you know, the poll was concerning those particular 10 presidents, so W being 2nd to last has no positive significace. You can't say, "Oh, look, he's on the list, he's doing well." It's not a top 10 list, it's a rating of the LAST 10 presidents. And a pretty damn good rating too. Were Clinton and GHW Bush swapped, I would say perfect.

Nixon's policies weren't bad, actually. For one, he did open China to the west. The only reason Nixon is regarded as the worst is because he was corrupt, but his policies weren't all that bad.
However, why is Lyndon Johnson so high? He played with fire in this nation, and in my opinion, Johnson was this close to winning the Cold War for the Soviets.
