Which ideologically opposite band of the late 70s and early 80s do you prefer.


the honest white working class crooning of the oi giants skrewdriver, or the annoying umpteen member dirt bag collective known as crass, the only band the could play itself at football, but couldn't play listenable music

I've listened to Skrewdriver and Heard of Crass, but never paid any attention to the ideals of either, are we voting on music or ideals?

For anyone who doesn't know, Skrewdriver were a white supremacist/white power oi punk band, and were about as musically valid as the Spice Girls.

Crass... Sounded funny, in a very amateur sort of way, but always had something thought provoking to say, even if it wasn't well played. If you want a lesson on punk ideals and anarchy before it all got twisted, polluted, watered down or whatever, have a listen. Don't bother listening to Skrewdriver, because as well as being white power scum, they weren't a very good band...

Crass are alot better. I hate the Clash, they hate the Clash. It's love. They hate class, I hate class. It's real love.

Not that early Skrewdriver isn't too bad, it's the later stuff that starts to suck. Like the song Anti Social.(Anti Social being a good song by them I mean.)

they were true punk rock, technical competence is for the tools of the jew controlled record industry(its also likely they were drunk out of their skulls most of the time). i will admit their musical skills did actually seem to decline over time.

I saw both live, and the guys from Skrewdriver chased me with hockeysticks because I wasn't a white-power skin. And so they will always be inferior in my book for being a bunch of asses. At least at Crass shows, I didn't have to keep looking over my shoulder for being hispanic.

Therefore, idealogically, Crass gets the ups.

Now throw Armed and Hammered into the mix, and both of those bands will have to submit.

They sound like a mix between Day Glo Abortions, Subhumanz (for the bass lines) and a bit of old Chaotic Dishord. Mopa (the singer) is one of the drinkiest bastards i've ever been drunk under the table by.

I don't think it'll come as a surprise to anyone that knows me that I'm voting for CRASS here. I beg to differ on the claim that CRASS were most likely drunk all the time - they always struck me as dope smokers rather than drinkers. What really entertained me recently was reading about CRASS playing the Anarchy Centre in Belfast in '82 and being quite frankly shocked and appalled at the amount of drinking and glue-sniffing going on amongst the underage youth in attendance.

Altogether now: "Big A, Little A, bouncing B..."

Kids today, I ask you? The sooner we start up the musical re-education camps the better.
