I have a theory about Reagan

Tell me if you agree with me....
I think I've figured out why they're playing Ronald Reagans funeral to death on all the news networks. (granted this is a bit of a conspiracy, but whatever.) Okay, President Bush created the myth of Iraqi WMDs, and since somw of the news networks hold a conservative view, they started realizing that the WMDs don't exist, but they really like Bush, and don't want him out of power. So what better to do than to distract people from the whole situation than with over playing the death of the "greatest conservative who has ever lived"? It's brilliant! It distracts people enough so that they'll loose concentration on the war, and it'll seem like Bush is doing a great job after all, and this will help ensure that he gets re-elected by a wide margine. It will turn from "fighting the axis of terror" to "protecting the free world, by removing Saddam Gussein from power (w00t!)" and enough people will not notice the switch, that Bush can get re-elected!
It also helps Bush push through a bunch of bs laws that punch back our rights even more!
I'll bet you that GWB was even writing Reagan's eulogy, long before he actually died, to make sure he sounded like a caring, down home boy, Texan with a big hat, and an even bigger heart. Pure, political bullshit. It's the art of controlling the masses. A loaded democracy is worse than a corrupt dictatorship, because in a dictatorship you at least know your place, but in a democracy, you're kept dumb, and controlled by the media, but in a subtle fashion.

pretty much
oops i forgot i wasnt supposed to do that short agreement post thing, i spend too much time on chat
i dont think that its a vast right wing conspiracy but i do think that its being way over done and that plays into bush's reelection plans.
no bad news about iraq while reagan is being eulogized. lots of talk about how great conservatives are. its all good for bush

Most of them wrote their eulogies long ago. In fact, I think Maggie Thatcher's was a tape recording from nearly a year ago (they all knew Reagan would soon die).
I fail to understand, however, why this will help Bush. He hardly knew the man. Reagan and Bush jr. aren't really linked by the hips. And I've been following what has been happening in Iraq. A couple of shootouts here and there, and al-Sadr has backed the new government, but other than that, it hasn't been much. If the media was so conservative, then the death of Reagan came at a rather inconvinient time.

The reason they're playing the Reagan events 24/7 is because:
A.) An American President died - conservative or not - a man died.
B.) People liked him.
C.) That's what 24/7 news channels do when a story like this breaks.
Reagan should be on a $3 bill

June 11, 2004
I offered my small prayer for Ronald Reagan when he was shot by this Hinckley. I said another prayer for him when I read this graceful note that he issued about his Alzheimer's.
Having said this, I now strongly endorse a suitable memorial for him.
Ronald Reagan belongs on a $3-bill.
You are supposed to honor and respect the dead. But you also must respect the truth, and live for the living - and this funeral has gone on for almost a week. I am in a car and I hear the radio announcer, who is supposed to be telling you news, whisper:
"The color guard quietly leaves the casket viewing area and marches with the colors towards the two hearses; they are taking no chances and have a backup ... "
I was waiting for him, or somebody next to him, to let out a sob.
For the funeral of Ronald Reagan, they took the body from Beverly Hills to Simi Valley, the white Los Angeles suburb, where it stayed for a day and a half or so then they drove it in one of these two hearses to the airport and flew it to Washington and then they had a march and afterwards put the casket into the Capitol for crowds to pass by and now there was to be another march and a religous service and then a drive to the airport, where the casket will be shuttled back to the airport south of Los Angeles and in a hearse to the final ceremony at his library on Friday. That is quite a funeral. They buried George Washingon in half the time.
You keep thinking of Harry Truman, whose code was, "Do not impose." He left an order that there were to be no eulogies at his funeral.
This man Reagan was 93 years old and out of it with Alzheimer's for many years and I don't see how anybody can summon grief. They proclaimed it a deep religious ceremony. Which it is not. His whole weeklong funeral is cheap, utterly distasteful American publicity.
The great American news industry, the Pekinese of the Press with so much room and time and nothing to say, compared Reagan to Lincoln and Hamilton, they really did. This is like claiming that the maintenance man wrote the Bill of Rights. And almost all the reporters agreed that Reagan was the man who brought down Russia in the Cold War.
Just saying this is absolutely sinful. The Cold War was won by a long memo written by George Kennan, who worked in the State Department and sent the memo by telegram about the need for a "Policy of Containment" on Russia. Kennan said the contradictions in their system would ruin them. Keep them where they are and they will tear themselves apart. We followed Kennan's policy for over 40 years. The Soviets made it worse on themselves by building a wall in East Berlin. When they had to tear it down and give up their system, Kennan was in Princeton and he sat down to dinner.
I thought that children were taught this. Instead, all week, reporters told us that Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. Beautiful.
Ronald Reagan was an actor. He was as real as the line he used to keep his fame alive. "Win one for the Gipper."
The line was complete Hollywood, down to agents who fought over it.
In 1938, a radio show, "Cavalcade of America," had a segment about coach Knute Rockne of Notre Dame and his star back, George Gipp, who was dying of pneumonia and supposedly said to Rockne, "Someday, when the team's up against it, the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go in there with all they've got! Win one for the Gipper."
Warner Brothers bought the radio segment and assigned screen writer Robert Buckner to put the "Win one" line into his otherwise original screenplay of "Knute Rockne All American."
Pat O'Brien was Rockne and Reagan was George Gipp. Reagan delivered "Win one for the Gipper" extremely well; he was a lot better actor than he was supposed to be.
When the writers of the radio show saw the movie, they realized that this guy was getting their best line. "Win one ... "
"Where is ours?" they asked. Warner Brothers made a quick settlement and the film was released with Reagan's famous speech.
But for a television release, the line was taken out of the film because Warner didn't want to pay any more. It is back in the video, my friend Harry Haun notes in his book, "The Cinematic Century."
In government, he was as real as his trademark line. He was a callous man with a smile who cut taxes in 1981 and left this city and state without funds for such things as help for dependent children. He proudly hurt the boroughs of this city more than anyone before or after him. If you live in Brooklyn, the record shows that Ronald Reagan hated children. The city and state had to raise taxes to make up for money lost because of Reagan's great conservative movement. Reagan then raised taxes six times. He walked off, leaving us an enormous deficit but with a smile on his face that even the Gipper's fakery couldn't help us with.

But still, I think it's a bit excesive to show the full three hours of President Reagans motorcade of death. You would swear it's like 9/11 all over again, but only one dude died this time

Actually, this part sums it all up, a lot better.
We followed Kennan's policy (on containment of the Soviets) for over 40 years. The Soviets made it worse on themselves by building a wall in East Berlin.
Let's see...let's presume that Kennan policy memo was written in 1945, since the article doesn't precisely say when. From then to the Soviet Union's final collapse (1991), it's 46 years. Reagan came to power in 1981, so that leaves us with 36 years of active containment, detente, mutual assured destruction, etc. For the 36 years prior to Reagan, the policy was to appease the Soviets and let them rot internally.
It took Reagan all of 8 years to accomplish more to defeat the Soviet Union than the prior 36 years accomplished...and a lot less lives.

No, I know why they're showing Reagan's funeral on TV!
IT'S ALL A BIG CONSPIRACY!
You see, Pres. Bush made a treaty with Martians, and he asked them to plant WMD's in Iraq. So, they did. Bush then accused Iraq of having WMDS. But, there weren't any! That's because the Martians pulled out of the plan due to the appointment of a Extreme Left-Wing Liberal in the Martian Executive Branch.
But, Bush had a backup plan.
When the Gipper died, he payed each news station $500 million dollars embezzled from tax money to each news station to continuously play news of Reagan's death. That way, people would forget about the WMDS!
--I think some people like to think something is up. I don't think there's any reason to think they're is a relationship between Reagan's death and Bush using it to cover up WMDs. After all, if we let that story go, then we might as well accept my story about the Martians.
Thanks for reading this, Conspiracy Buffs of Nationstates (R)

Simplest explanation is, Reagan's legendary vanity.
No more Reagan threads. Ray Charles died. Who cares about Reagan when RAY CHARLES died!!!!!!!!!
This is what the ratio of threads currently is:
Reagan threads>Ray Charles Threads
This is how it should be:
Reagan Threads<Ray Charles threads

That would be a bit like Truman taking the credit for winning WW2. :roll:True. And yet, whereas Truman simply completed the job started by FDR, Reagan took American policy in a bold and completely new direction. Instead of "can't we all just get along?," Reagan went ahead with the philosophy of forcing the Soviets to "keep up with the Joneses."
The Soviet economy could not do it and continue to provide for its citizens what little it provided them.
And, Truman DID win the war in the Pacific. I am sure you remember two little implements called "Fat Man" and "Little Boy."

It was already won. He was just showing off to the Russians, and hey, the Japanese were non-whites, so using that stuff as a demo didn't matter.
