He's probebly blinking, or praying, or doing one of the BILLIONS of other things that involve closing your eyes, but don't involve sleeping.

You think ONE picture is gonna show me that he slept through Reagan's Eulogy?

To notice that, you'd have to take your eyes off Clinton and stop making fun of him for a second to confirm reality around you.

And we can't do that now, can we?

If you'd actually watched it, you would have seen that both Bill and Hillary did indeed have their eyes closed for more than a blink's time - they had their eyes closed throughout the whole shot. On FOX News, which is what I watched the service on, they showed them on two or three occasions and commented afterwards that they were probably just concentrating on deep prayer or maybe even in meditation. One of the reporters happened to attend services in that cathedral regularly, and noted that the seats were so uncomfortable that it would be nearly impossible to fall asleep in them.

I have to make one quick note here after trying to post this three times, only to have to wait a minute each time for an error message, only to find out that my post actually did go through three times, so I had to delete the other two - whatever server these forums are on really sucks!

Take it from me as a person who mastered the art of sleeping in class without getting caught, it is impossible to actually doze off and hold your head upright. The second you slip into atual sleep, you do that head bobbing motion like you're the cork on a bait a bass has just taken. You have to have something to rest your head on or else you get busted.

And trust me, if there were actual footage of Bill and Hillary sleeping, the video would already be up instead of this lame-ass still shot. You think the right-wing would skip a chance like that? Not a chance in hell.

So. What? :?

I have lost count of the number of times I have seen politicians asleep during official functions and debates.

And to be honest, I would have been bored as f*ck as well, having to sit through that. At least I had the option of switching off my TV, which I did in an instant. Poor guys had to be there.

*EG* - Thanks for that - you reminded me of an 8 AM Expository Writing course I had to take in freshman year. Several times I would actually go into such a deep sleep that I snored! It broke up the class - fortunately the instructor was kind about it.

Regarding this thread? GMOLFB! But it does look like he's suppressing a laugh. *VEG*

Man, considering all the fluff that was said about Reagan that's actually MORE true (statistically) of Clinton's achievements (such as being MORE popular, shrinking government MORE than Reagan did, and being far, far more fiscally conservative than Reagan), at least he was only physically closing his eyes instead of closing his mind's eye to the truth!

I would have to agree. I see many people close their eyes in prayer. And why is it that polilticial nutjobs always seem to exploit events like these?

When I am in church and pray, I close my eyes as well. Some people were raised that way, to be complete in your prayers by closing your eyes.

But enough about that......isn't it odd that Republicans, who have been slamming Democrats all week for not feeling enough sympathy for Reagan's passing, take the opportunity of pointing out even the most trivial of things done by Democrats instead of mourning like they complain that Democrats aren't doing enough of? Did you happen to notice the Clintons before or after you finished mourning Reagan???

'You sad little woman'. That says more about you than it does about me.
I too watched that clip, I too agree that the two were 'dozing' slightly. I also noticed that Prince Charles was doing the same, as were several others. It was a long service, highlighted with only a few moments of wit and compassion. I saw all that, but why you should find it a cause for amusement, I fail to see. I can only conclude by your original post and your comment about me that you are indeed, a bitter fool.

But seriouslly, people blink, and close their eyes at funerals. They could be praying.

Two people falling asleep at once with another person behind them asleep too? That woman must be a total pinko! Seriously, though, this can be taken out of context as much as you like. Even Fox News said it was probably prayer or meditation.

And Clinton-bashing is so four years ago.

I missed most of the California ceremony, but I heard that a soldier that recently returned from Iraq was there. He was missing both his hands and his leg was really messed up. I heard that he then saluted his President with what arms he had left.

1) Now I remember why I almost never post in general.

2) Speaking from memory, the first funeral I ever went to was for my Grand-father, only a few years ago, now, he died, we went to the funeral, and the size of the church and custom the the close family sitting in the front row meant I had my knees 3 feet from the coffin of the person I respected the most all my life.

( Its almost funny, I still get choked up over it. )

Now, being able to close my eyes and remember the good times, that and an iron will I lost when I finally got home and threw up from the stress of the day, was the only thing that got me through that service with-out going into hysterics.

Okay, I doubt Bill and Hill are going to be that wrought up over R.R.'s death, but I think you can under-stand what I am saying.

Might I further add, I find it pathetic so many people seem intent to objectify this funeral into something to ridicule or defend a pair of politicians. You all seem rather hell bent on remembering it as been anything but an occasion to mourn and have respect for persons passed on now.

To you people, I say go to bed tonight, and try to think what the most remembered point of your life and finally funeral will be. I can only hope that may put some perspective into you, something which many people here seem to be lacking.
