Farewell to the forum

I've been an on and off poster here for a while. You've probably all seen me around.
I've decided to leave the general forum permanently, due to the unbearable hatred that exists here. I see it coming from both the left and the right. The final straw for me was when someone implied that I like to kill babies and am a racist, simply because I've chosen to join the Navy.
Normally, I wouldn't make a farewell thread, because it might seem like I'm asking for sympathy, when I'm not. The reason I have created this thread is that I wish to leave you all with a final message of peace. Please stop the hatred. Life is too short to go around hating people for petty reasons; especially people you don't even know. All you do is hurt others, and ultimately hurt yourself, for you will lead a sad life if you are filled with hatred. It's stupid to hate people because of things like politics, religion, or race, and it's stupid to pass judgement on people you don't know. I can only hope that this message will change some of you.
For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up

I certainly haven't been around long enough to really know, but I have read quite a few posts from you and I judge you to be a good and decent person. However, in my short time here I have noticed some of the same things you have, and feel sorry for it.
Fare thee well. Good luck in the Navy (I applied to the Air Force Academy, but was turned down due to orthopedic problems in my right leg), and in all that you do.
Aye! It's a pity to see another good (i think) person leave General....
but hey, who can stop you?
As for me....I'll stay and try to continue making it through this wall of hate and hell

C'ya, I dont really come here often, mostly just when things get slow in the RP department.
But yeah, people generaly dislike my opinions...or ignore them.
But hey, its all good.
Maybe...just maybe, Ill eventually convince some small part of the form to lighten up slightly, and convince them that they dont have to be mini-Limbaughs for either party.

If you think the General Forum is bad, just take a step outside for a minute and look at the world. There's people out there who "hate" others because of their skin colour! Even their sexual preferences can cause discrimination.
Compared to the real world, the General Forum is civilized.

Right. So what you're saying is that a school full of kids saying, "Oh my gawd, this class is GAY, this pencil is GAY, this inanimate object is GAY" is better than the General Forum? At least people have decent debates here.

Just remember, when you're loading those bombs tipped with Depleated Uranium, that you're not just killing babies today -- but your killing babies for over a billion years! Now that's how you get the shiney medals!

No offence, but comments such as that almost make me hate the fact that I lean towards the liberal side of things. Even if it is just sarcasm, it is in poor taste. I wanted to join the Air Force, got any comments for me about bombing innocent civilians or the Canadian military?

Medals are given out for "fighting for freedom" and such. Whether that's true or not is a whole different debate.

I passed all the qualification tests, except the physical one. I have some orthopedic (I was born with a clubbed foot, and it has lead to some minor oseto arthritis in my ankle and I damaged my knee playing football) and nerve damage in my right leg, which prevented me from getting into the Academy. The recruitment officer said with the extent of the damage (and it's effect on my ability to run long distances) I would most likely be rejected by all branches at this point.

Isolationism is not, but your post only seemed to indicate a hatred for the military and its actions, a viewpoint typically held and expressed by those of the left-hand side of things, rather than the right (which typical have a fondness for the military and its actions). I recognize the fact that I used a logical fallacy (in this case, hasty generalization), but I was mearly having/posting a mostly emotional response to your rather crass post.

awww... come on little buddy, don't let your cloven-foot get you down -- you can feed the war machine in other ways! Have you ever considered building the bombs that kill babies? I know it's not as thrilling as killing the babies yourself, but atleast this way you can say you had a small part in spreading DU all over the place.

And where exactly are you getting your info on the hazards of depleted uranium? It is only used after it has decayed to the point where it is no longer emitting a harmful level of alpha particles, and no longer represents an adverse health risk to those around it. There is no way that it would be effecting life on a large scale now nor a billion years from now.
As for participating in the building of the factories, no thanks, I'm not that skilled a manual laborer (see my post about why I wasn't allowed into Colorado Springs for a good part of the reason for this). My current occupational hopes lean in the direction of post-secondary education or perhaps some field or museum work (I'm currently studying History).

The military is supposed to defend the citizens of the United States... when it does anything else, it is an enemy of the citizens of the United States...

I agree with you, however the military responds and carries out the orders of the President and his Joint Chiefs of Staff. You can't hold the military as a whole accountable for the piss-poor command decisions of the few, who have the power to control it. I may have reservations about the real reasons behind the current conflicts, but what's done is done, you can't change the past, so we just have to make the best of the current situation.

Now, now. We didn't veto the latest Security Counsel resolution condemning Israel. We just had them soften the language quite a bit, to the point we would feel comfortable abstaining from voting.

First of all, the military code forces solders to disobey any unlawful orders (no matter where there from)
Second, anyone seeing that our military is the arm of Imperialism who still joins it is unAmerican...

At least I had to cajones to attmept to enlist, even if I don't always agree with the way we use our military might, I do have some pride for where I come from. If I had my way, I'd change a lot of things done by the US lately, but that doesn't mean I hate my country nor feel any less obligated to serve it in some capacity.

yes, it certainly takes big brass ones to attempt joining the Air Force...

Anywho -- back in reality: Logic would dictate that if you disagreed with the Imperial uses of the military, you would try and stop it if you loved you country -- not just join it and shrug your shoulders saying "oh, well"

Perhaps I should elaborate a bit. I'm now 22 years old, when I attempted to join the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs (rejected due to medical problems) I was 17, Walker Bush wasn't even president yet and the current crop of geopolitical issues weren't around. At the time I could think of no better way to secure funding for college and do something for my country (it seemed like a good idea to kill two birds with one stone). I still support the military and its members (of which my family currently has 4, 2 of which are currently deployed and 2 of which are not), but I don't support the ideals nor persons currently issuing the orders to them (hence the dichatomy present in my earlier posts). As for doing something to change it, well as I'm not a wealthy lobbyist or political big-wig I'm to going to do what I can come November, only time will tell if I'll be able to effect any change though.
Hope that clears things up a bit.
P.S. Sorry for the rather acidic tone of my earlier rants, I'm so tired at the moment I didn't realize that I hadn't talked about the time that had passed between when I tried to enlist and now.

This was the time when Clinton was bombing the Sudan, Iraq and all of Yougoslavia under the NATO banner (killing more "ethnic" Albanians than the Serbians) not to mention the fact that US had troops occupying Saudi Arabia and protecting the royal family there...

As it seems there is no way to placate you into having a civil discourse with you on this, I'm going to bid you good night.
Just wondering, as pretty much every president since Franklin Roosevelt has some kind of inhumane treatment of people and/or borderline war-crime in their closet, is there any president of the United States in the last 60 years or so you respect or are you simply an American that hates America?

Why do you call me an "American that hates America" because I don't respect "war-criminal(s)" ?
