I think that the age laws are unfair as you can get married at 16 or 17 but it is illegal to buy champagne. Also you can have a child at 16 which can change your life forever but cant drink or drive.(or drinkdrive)

yup, i support lowering voting age, drinking age, and age of consent to 16, and raising the draft age to 25.

I support the age drop only if a mandatory level of post secondary is instated as well. Knowledge is a required component of responsibility and ultimately freedom.

Teens are dumb, trust me, the less responsibility given to them, the better.
If I had it my way, you'd have to take the bus to school until you graduated, and when you finally had the chance to take the driver's license test, you wowuld have to get 100 out of 100.

good thing misanthropic crackpots like yourself don't have the power to enforce your opinions :).

if i had it my way nobody over the age of 30 would be able to involve themselves in any laws that control young people, and only persons under the age of 30 would be able to pass laws dealing with the welfare of the elderly. that would teach adults to get the hell off their high horses and realize that their children are often smarter than the "older and wiser" among us. treat young people like adults and they will act like adults; treat them like children and they will act just like you.

I think it is crap that you can die for your country, have a child, get married, and drive...all before you can drink! Come on people, we need that booze to calm our fears of getting drafted, having children, or getting married. As for the voting age, that should be lowered too. Many kids are more likely to vote for the issues, rather than voting one side because they always vote that side.

That's a good paragraph from a teeny-bopper. Wait, what's that on your radio? Britney Spears, nah, it's gotta be Hillary Duffball.
Maybe older people know what younger people are going to do so they create laws for the kids' sake.
How can they do that you may ask? Hmmmm....let's see. One good reason: THEY'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE! We all know how teens act and how much parents really influence them. A person decides who they are and that makes it difficult to control them. The typical teen is a "cool rebellious punk," face it, it's true and it's sad.

I'm all in favor of just having some kind of written examination to decide when you are ready to drink, get married, vote, and have kids -- just like getting a drivers license. Too many Americans take most of our 'rights' for granted and do stupid 5|-|17, making age laws necessary. Having compulsory examinations for all (especially for native citizens) would ensure that more idiots would be left behind and unable to do anything stupid, while letting those with a little common sense have freedoms they deserve.

Anyone else agree?

awww, too bad gramps, you're off by about 10 miles.

i'm not a teen

i've never been a teenie-bopper (i was a candy kid back in the late 90s, but that's quite a ways from Brittany)

i don't listen to the radio, it's generally crap, i buy albums i like and follow the local music scene. since you asked, i enjoy classic punk (read: 80s), metal/rock from the early 90s thru today, and humorous selections like those from Stephen Lynch or Henry Rollins.

i am experienced enough to know that parents have NEVER been there before. the world is totally different now, for my little brother's teen years, than it was for mine, and we're only 9 years apart in age. i would never be so ignorant as to claim i know what it is like to be a teen today, since i don't...i know what it was like to be a teen when i was a teen, but that's a whole other matter.

older people never know what younger people are going to do. never have, never will. older people don't know what older people are going to do, so how could they possibly claim to have the slightest notion what younger people will be up to? older people tend to assume that forbidding things make people, young or old, less likely to do them...something which all current historical and psychological research contradicts.

there is no such thing as a "typical teen," any more than there is such thing as a "typical old person." teens are as different as any group, and the whole problem with our current social and educational systems is the efforts to make all young people fit into one preconceived mold just because older people are too lazy and arrogant to pay attention. it's the same sort of lazy ignorance that gives birth to racism, sexism, and all those other ugly prejudices that we tell kids not to fall into.

my only advice to you is this: grow up. just because teens today are less ignorant and conceited than you is no reason to punish them. i know you are bitter that you're old and they aren't, but you really should try to act your age and be the bigger man (or woman). get over yourself and take the time to actually learn about young people...you'll be much less likely to get put in a cruddy old folks home if you do ;).

Do what Europe does, raise the driving age, lower the drinking age.

Age of consent is fine where it is at 18

Enjoy!I'm pretty sure you're too young to vote, or you wouldn't be complaining. You'll understand when you're older.

please, the voting age is already too low for some people.

Drinking age? Kids can already drink if they want to, but they are also just learning to drive too. The drinking age is there not because the kids can't handle their liquor, but because they aren't responsible enough to know what to do when they're drunk.

Smoking age? Who cares, that's just to purchase cigarettes... if they want them, they'll get them anyway.

Driving? heck no, keep it 16.

I'll never understand why a sixteen year old can drive a multi-ton conglomeration of steel and glass on public streets, night and day, in any kind of weather around other people where even the slightest miscalculation can cost lives...

...but he has to be eighteen years old to operate a deli-slicer.

As far as age goes, I don't believe anybody is too young for a good beating. :D

In England...

Start working - 16
Join the Army - 16
Buy cigarettes - 16
Have sex - 16
Drive - 16
Vote - 18
Buy alcohol - 18
Rent a car - 21

And the age of criminal responsibility (where you can be arrested and charged with a crime) is 11.

Mmmmm alcohol... :D

then you must increase the voting age to 25

unless you want draftees who never had a say of who they wanted to become President.

I say we abolish time itself. If there was no time, people wouldn't have time to kill or steal. We would live forever, too. Time is evil!
