Im just curious to see which of these bands people here like the most. Note: These are not necessarily my favorite bands, but a list of popular bands that I thought people would vote for. As you can see I didnt put any old school bands on here ( too old school), so please dont say Matalica or some crap. Do however let me know who else you think should be on the list.

My top 5: Meshuggah, Tool, Sevendust, Sublime, and 311's old stuff.

P.S. I intended on having more bands to choose from, but i guess you cant have that many poll options. stupid.

Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes and Radiohead would make my personal list of the last 10 years...I'd say Nirvana as well but probably a bit too old.

Oh, and throw in Soulfly and the Deftones. Just 'cause :)

I saw Staind with Nickleback, and really enjoyed. They've got a good stage prescence, and their sound was excellent. I wouldn't say they were amongst my favorite though. I try not to have favorite bands, cause it's too dependent upon my mood at the time, ie blues, rock, heavy, classical, fluffy, etc.. and my tastes are to eclectic to pick a "favorite", or hell even a top 20 for that matter.

Sweet! Another Nightwish fan! I haven't heard much of the other groups, are they much like Nightwish?

My all-time favorite metal band is Therion, btw.

Big fan of both Sublime and Pearl Jam. Staind is pretty good too. But you have to throw in a little Audioslave, Soundgarden, and Foo Fighters. NOW we're talking.

What about Opeth?

Don't be put off just because they sometimes do "death-metal" screams. They are an extremely talented band capable of a wide variety of things with their instruments. Not to mention their albums generally flow together quite well and even have a (somewhat hidden) story behind them, that's a bit more refined than screaming about eating children (like some metal bands).

Opeth is my favorite band that began in the past 10 years, hands down.

I like Meshuggah, I saw In Flames with MudVayne, who are the heros of Meshuggah and almost all Swedish metal bands.

That said, Tool is probably my favorite band of all time. Musical prefection, imo. Careys drums give it a feel different than any other band, coupled with Maynards vocals it's the ultimate music, for me anyway.

Sublime and Nirvana were both cool, I guess, but I just can't respect someone who would waste themselves on smack. Knowles was a fucking rockstar, and a very talented lyricist, what a waste. Cobain... I think I've said enough there...

I like the direction rock and roll is taking, lately. There are alot of new sounds that I like, alot of new bands that have crazy potential. Don't care for Spipknot much, especially after this latest album, but their off-beat rythyms and utter craziness make me smile. I like Six Feet Under alot, simply because they come out of the mold of generic death-metal and explore their own things. They have more to offer than power cords and an asshole growling. A Perfect Circle is a fantastic band, but I'm rather partial to Maynard. Billy Howerdale{sp?} and Twiggy make the band amazing,

That's not to say I approve of most of the shit that's played on the radio, because I definately don't. Nickelback, Linkin Park, and the rest of those bitches need to wipe their eyes, pop mommies tit out of their mouths, and get over whatever it is they're whining about.

I had more, but I'm outta time...

Pantera--you mention a band that can "come out of the mold of generic death-metal and explore their own things. They have more to offer than power cords and an asshole growling."

That description would fit Opeth quite well, too. They are a new favorite of mine, so I'm curious if you've ever tried their work.

I loved Sublime. "Wrong Way" was just an amazing song. Recently though, in the last five years, I don't think there's been a single big, break-out group/artist that's really made an impact like older, especially rock, musicians made.

You're funny... Six Foot Under are the most generic, cookie cutter death metal band this side of Suffocation.

I voted Meshuggah. Those other bands were all crap.

Opeth are okay. They have some awesome guitar riffs...but they remind me of "mullet metal" sometimes, and that puts me off. They are talented though, I cant deny that.

I've listened to Opeth, and while decent, never really touched me.

I don't really care for gory death metal, any of it. I like Six Feet because of 420. It holds a special place deep down in my heart, but any harder than Six Feet and I shy away, simply because everything seems to degenerate into screaming and growling, rather than actual music and lyrics...

All of that said, I've listened to all of it. Deicide to Luciferian to CoF and all the way back through the Milwaukee Metal Fest roll sheet, and I can't really say I care for any of it all that much. Most of it seems lacking in creativity, to me at least.

Dank...

Queens of the Stone Age

Could not agree with you more.

I'd say Nirvana as well but probably a bit too old.

I would not and I am only 16. Nirvana are great.

Dude, Opeth has some bad ass stuff, you have to listen to all of thier albums to get a feel for them.

I also thought pearl jam would get more votes than it did. They are not my fav of those bands, but it seems like they have so many hit songs that are all very well written and i would think would be a very influential band. o well.
