Do you think people that fought for our country should have their living expenses paid for?
I do.
These people put their lives on the line for us, even if they didn't agree with everything the U.S. stood for.
This should be done especially in this day in age when half the people would skip out of a draft and go to Canada.
There are way too many people on welfare that could be working normal jobs. This money should be given to the Veterans.

At least do the poll......

Some of it is what we do now, and I think it's the way it should stay. I'm shipping out June 29th, by the way.

I have a bunch of cousins who live on welfare. They're horrible. Abusing the system. Etc. But a society without welfare is a society I wouldn't want to live in.

Oh and... you can't post nine minutes later and say "omg why has no one said anything"... it's very unreasonable.

I live in a house on a military installation, they pay for the electric. SO I have free rent and electric, and garbage pick up. They also give me about $240 a month for food. Everything else I pay for, and for that, I thank the government. I wish they would pay for childcare, and some others, but I thank them for what they give me in return for my Army service.

no

but

they need to be compensated for the losses they suffer in defending their country

my dad was a disabled vet from ww2. he got benefits til the day he died. (well ok the VA hospital killed him but thats another story)

my friends who have health problems from their service in iraq during desert storm get the back of our hand. its not right. they deserve the same benefits that our ww2 vets got.

Amen. I find it appalling that its been 12 years and still no one gives a shit about Gulf War Syndrome. I've seen best friends of mine diminished to near sticks from GWS and no one cares. Nobody cares that childhood disorders in children of Gulf War vets are over 100 times what is expected as normal. So many things are going on but everyone turns a blind eye.

Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow if doubt, I shall join the 600... Thank you for your compensation, it provides a roof, the rest i have to do.

I think (correct me if I am wrong) it was General Wesley Clark who said that he wished every American could enjoy the benefits to which members of the Armed Forces were entitled.

So, they are already receiving much more in the way of social provision than the average American, many of whom receive virtually nothing.

Depressingly, Russia is in the process of phasing out veterans' benefits, mainly those past civilian retirement age. Too bad for those still living who survived WW2.

Incidentally, many Russian veterans of the Afghan War (1979-1989) developed symptoms similar to those of Gulf War Syndrome, something akin to chemical / heavy metal poisoning. The one common link I can think of is use of depleted uranium in anti-armour weapons.

There is a major difference Politically in the climate between WWII vets, and Gulf-War vets.
Basically, an awful lot of congressmen from a certain side of the aisle came out of the 1960's with a certain view of those who soldier for this country, and a certain view of the Gulf Wars in general.
WWII vets had the respect of the Political Leadership, vets post-1952 don't-even from politicos (like Kerry) who ARE vets.

It's like Agent-Orange, nobody in Washington D.C. gives a flying (censored) about the guys who wear the uniform unless they can turn it into a juicy scandal aimed at their opponent.

Good, They had no right to be in Afghanistan, That is what you get invading a peacful nation that is about to bring a wonderful government and then killing their people and screwing up their lives for decades.

All soldiers deserve compensation for their duties. My father is still reaping the benefit of his service in Vietnam.
