This movie made me incredibly happy today.

I've always thought Tim Burton was a fantastic director, but upon seeing Big Fish I've decided he's probably my favorite of all time. Simply genius.

I'm definately going to buy the book that the movie is based on, but other than that, all I can say is:

Wow. Fucking Wow.

And it was filmed near my town, but I never went to see it. I know some of the extras in the movie. Perhaps I should go?

I was really surprised by it as well--I think it was a great example of what's possible when a director allows him or herself to get beyond the facade they create around themselves and make an honest movie. Burton let his weirdness work with the movie instead of taking over it. No weird just for the sake of weird here.

I heard alot of people were disappointed by the fact that it did not reflect the usual Burton.

I thought it was a wonderful movie.

I think Burton had become a one-trick pony--Burton, oh he's that weird guy. No depth. Big Fish proved he could make a good movie that had weird elements but that didn't dominate the movie.
