I can't believe he lost. I hoped he would win. I am a philly native and was cheering him on. He deserved the win.

Ummmm.... he's A HORSE!

What? Did he show up at the paddock early? do extra furlongs after practice?

I mean - yeah it's nice to see an accomplishment like the Triple Crown - but I hardly think that one creature being whipped in the ass "deserves" to reach an arbitrary mark on a field any more than any of the other creatures that are getting whipped on the ass....

Which is my way of saying... I really didn't care one way or the other.

I agree. I'm waiting for the olympics when HUMANS race.

I want Smarty Jones to win. I want to see a Triple Crown winner for a change.

He already lost. Better luck next year....

To bad he lost. I was hoping that a horse from outside of Bluegrass country could finally win. But, he didn't.

I wouldn't discredit the Triple Crown that quickly. After reading a National Geographic article on the horse breeding industry, I was amazed. It's a multibillion dollar industry, and often on the forefront of genetic research.

See my thread of the same name for my opinion. I think it's on page 2 of General by now.

That is hardly relevant to the statement as to whether one particular horse "deserved" to win the Triple Crown. You might, however, be able to use that to give credit to a breeding program as deserving some success. And they DID have succcess. But designing a horse to excel over diferent field surfaces and distances is one thing. Claiming that the horse was somehow more or less deserving than the others seems silly. They ALL run their asses off according to the direction and strategy implemented by the jockey.

But only three of the horses can win a thing. Only one of the horses can win the Triple Crown. If the horses don't win, well they didn't run fast enough. BTW, I saw Belmont live. Smarty Jones wasn't being hit with the jockey's crop as much as the winner was. So there, not all horses need the same amount of hitting.
