Supporting government and capitalism
To be a statist-capitalist (What we have now as opposed to anarchism):
1. You have to believe that giving orders is 500X harder than actually producing something.
2. You have to believe that armed robbery is only a crime if someone besides the government.
3. You have to believe that people will kill eachother unless a special group threatens to kill them for it.
4. You have to believe that a child that has never seen any coersion or force from his parents will steal and kill anything that moves.
5. You have to believe that pot kills millions a day but cigarettes are harmless enough to be legal.
6. You have to believe that The Matrix will make children bomb skyscrapers but spanking them will have no harmful effects.
7. You have to believe that the average person is too stupid to control themselves but Bush is smart enough to control an entire nation.
8. You have to believe that lust is worst than greed.
9. You have to believe that workers choose to take orders and receive less than they produce willingly.
10. You have to believe that property and life are unalienable rights, except for the poor.
11. You have to believe that workers should starve to death for being lazy but rich people should be glorified for being lazy.
12. You have to believe that without money, people will eat everything they can get from a commual store and let the rest spoil.
13. You have to believe that the government always obeys the bill of rights no matter what.
14. You have to believe that the exceptions to the requirement above are for our own good.
15. You have to believe that some people are too mean to be controlled without government but never end up our government.
16. You have to believe that the nation is more important than the individual, justifying the draft.
17. You have to believe that in a society consisting of employers and employees, politicians and citizens, BDSM is abnormal.
18. You have to believe that anyone could start their own business and compete with Microsoft and if they don't, they're just lazy.
19. You have to believe that anyone with any compassion toward workers is a communist.
20. You have to believe that people would rather watch streets fill with garbage and starve than work 4 hours a day without a boss.
21. You have to believe that a group of 150 can't tell if someone they meet regularly is prone to killing people.

This is somewhat off topic, but I would just like to ask you anarchists out there how you believe anarchy should occur? Should it be an immediate change, such that government is just instantaneously abolished? Is it through a natural and unavoidable progression from feudalism to capitalism to socialism to communism as Marx believed (yes, I realize these are systems of economics rather than governement, but Marx's idea of communism is decidedly anarchistic)? Is it perhaps a forced progression for democratic socialism to anarchy over a LONG period of time as Lennin hoped for? Or should it occur some other way? Just curious.

There is no "historical law" or any other Marxist garbage compelling a move towards anarchism (communitarian or capitalist). We can live without it... just not very well.
In general any move away from statism, whether big or small, is a success for me. I'm Heinlein's "Rational Anarchist".
A rational anarchist believes that concepts such as 'state' and 'society' and 'government' have no existence save as physically exemplified in the acts of self-responsible individuals. He believes that it is impossible to shift blame, share blame, distribute blame... as blame, guilt, responsiblity are matters taking place inside human beings singly and nowhere else. But being rational, he knows that not all individuals hold his evaluations, so he tries to live perfectly in an imperfect world... aware that his efforts will be less than perfect yet undismayed by self-knowledge of self-failure.

Personally, how I think that anarchy would occur is that a group of people wanting it would secede from the government (of whichever country that "owns" the land they're squatting on) and start their own nation.

Sadly i think practical Anarchism is very dificult to achieve at present. In order for anarchism to work, people need a fundamental shift in behaviour away from competitive/greed style consumer capitalism to cooperative activity. This is most likely to occur if we reach environmental crisis point as predicted by many scientists. Ecological collapse would force change because growth oriented capitalism cannot resolve that sort of problem.
While i think Marx wrote some really good stuff, the historical dialectic argument for social progresssion is a little flawed and based on 19th century capitalism. The introduction of Keynesian and more recently Hayekian macro economic management has softened the edge of capitalism and the conditions no longer lead to proletarian revolution in the way that they once did.
Contemporary Marxist debate is more revisionist and the moral element of socialism is more important than classical Marxist theory for which morality is somewhat irrelevant.

I can't always type pages for one post. The server has a tendency to crash and I have to get the post in while I know it is still working. If I take too long, I will miss the window of opportunity and have to wait a long time for the server to recover.

I can't always type pages for one post. The server has a tendency to crash and I have to get the post in while I know it is still working. If I take too long, I will miss the window of opportunity and have to wait a long time for the server to recover.
Take your time and actually think out your posts. If you're worried about losing it when the server burps, put it in a text file on your computer. People will wait for your responses if you make them worthwhile. A good slow conversation is much better than a bad fast one.
