Battle of the Bands (Pink Floyd vs. The Beetles)
ROUND 2 BRACKET 1 (Land of the Past)
Okay here's how the voting goes. Since the polls can easily be manipulated this is the voting system we will use:
If you post your vote with a nation of 75 posts or more, that vote counts as two. The poll votes count as 1. Technically your vote can be counted as three votes, if you vote both in the poll and post what you voted for.
However, even with this system in place this entire poll can be easily manipulated. So I ask you, please don't... Let's not cheat shall we?
Also, I'd like arguements from both sides on why that particular band (in this case, either Pink Floyd or The Beetles) should win. So please feel free to post long paragraphs regarding the merits of either Pink Floyd or The Beetles.
The poll will run for exactly 1 day.
After the poll closes. Posted votes will not count.

So close! I would have to say Pink Floyd. my reasons for saying this are simply that Pink Floyd is a little more hard rockin'. They have more evolved style, and their music made you feel like you were on a trip.

I don't like the them... I never liked them... and I am not about to screw up the poll to correct a spelling mistake in their name...

Pink Floyd!
Their drug music was better, and their songs meant something, not "I love a chick and she don't love me."

Katholic, you obviously haven't listened to the later Beatles stuff, but anyway, I'd almost call it a tie, because I love Pink Floyd too...except that I always felt that Roger Waters, while brilliant, was more full of himself than John Lennon. I always got more of a feeling of a sense of humor about themselves from the Beatles. Of course, Roger had no Yoko to screw the whole thing up. ;)
Besides, a dead celebrity trumps a live one any time.
I loved The Wall, but I loved Yellow Submarine too. Of course, I liked Head as well, but the Monkees got Jack Nicholson to produce it, and Frank Zappa to cameo...
'The Beatles' not 'The Beetles'

I noticed that too...made me wonder if I should use that as the reason to vote for Pink Floyd...
because I totally have no idea because they are both completely amazing

Man, this ain't right. No way two bands this big should be meeting in the first round. This is a quarterfinals matchup at least.
That said, much as I love Pink FLoyd, much as I think they're one of the more interesting bands of all time, there's no competing with the symbiosis of the geniuses who made up the Beatles. All you have to do is look at their individual accomplishments and then look at what they accomplished together and you see a band that truly was more than the sum of its parts, and what parts they were to begin with.
So it's the Beatles for me, although if you have a loophole to bring back a deserving band in a later round, either of these would be worthy.

My vote is for the Beatles. There's no comparison, in my opinion. The consistent quality of the Beatles catalogue, from the beginning of their careers to the end, is unmatched by any other band. There's no such thing as a "bad" Beatles album; even those recognized as "duds" (Magical Mystery Tour; Let it Be) are packed with great songs. Some people prefer "early" Beatles and some people prefer "late," but even as the style changed, the quality of their songs remained high. For those who have only heard the Beatles on the radio, I suggest that you listen to some of the lesser-known songs, random ones that you've never heard before. I've been amazed at how some of these "little-known" songs turn out to be as great in their own way as the hits.

It's a real shame that the bracket was arranged this way. One of the other matchups (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148768) in the same bracket was Elvis Costello and The Attractions vs. Dead Kennedys. Now, even if you like one or both of those bands, you have to admit that it's not nearly as brutal a matchup as Pink Floyd vs. Beatles.

No matter how the brackets could have been arranged... there is no pleasing anyone...
So pleaese spare me your disdain on the unfairness or imbalances in the brackets.

My comment was supposed to be a statement about the difficulty of the choice, not an insult directed toward you. But if you want to take offense, go ahead...

Actually, this is one of the better comparisons so far.
Both are nearly as old as the other...
Both have the "psychedelic" influence..
and both recorded albums in the Abbey Road studios at the same time.
These are two of my three favorite bands of all time....
But..no one can touch the Beatles legacy.
No one can touch the craze that the Beatles inspired, or had as much impact on the way that music is recorded, distributed, produced, perfomed, or written.
The Beatles are truly the greatest band of all time.
I love Floyd, dont get me wrong......
But even Pink Floyd cant hold a candle to the lads from Liverpool.

Pink Floyd, hands down.
Although, this may be a popularity contest. I'm sure many people dont even know what Pink Floyd is.
Damn! They must hear great music!

Strangers passing in the street, by chance do separate glances meet.
For I am you, and what I see, is me..
and no one call us to the Lord, and no one forces down our eyes..
and no one sleeps and no one tries, and starts to climb toward the light.
Both extremely talented bands musically, and the ground inspirations for most of my favorite bands.
But,, I can't at all choose between them :?

Both are great bands - for very different reasons.
My experience of them was that The Beatles had a broader range by far. It is also somewhat unfair to compare Pink against even the later Beatles since The Beatles waned then dead ended back in '69 (thank you Yoko) before Pink Floyd came into their own in a big way(arguably, '72 with release of Dark Side).
Overall, for sheer musical talent and range The Beatles have it hands down. For hard core druggie music Pink Floyd has the edge.

You say the hills too steep to try...climbing.
You say you you'd like to see me try...climbing...
You pick the place and I'll choose the time...
and I'll climb....
The hill in my own way...
Just wait awhile, for the right day.
and as I rise above the tree lines in the clouds...
I look down......hearing the things you said today.
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling.
Merciless the magistrate turns 'round...
Frowning...
and whose the fool who wears the crown....?
You go down..in your own way...
and everyday...is the right day...
and as you rise above the fear lines in his brow..you look down....
Hearing the faces in the crowd.

They're both absolutely amazing. I like both bands equally, but I feel that it's not like the classic "David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar" argument because they were both very different from one another, yet they both kicked ass!!

I have to say, I thought Pink Floyd came into their own with Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967. See Emily Play is a classic, apart from all that came after. I still prefer the Beatles, but then again, Roger Waters has just plain pissed me off with his behavior and narcisism since the band broke up. I think the Beatles were more consistent in quality, even the stuff you wouldn't hear unless you owned the records and listened to the B sides. I can count so many more Beatles songs among my all time favorites, and not so many Pink Floyd songs. I like Pink Floyd's music, but it never resonated with me as much as something like Fool on the Hill or There Are Places I Remember

Pink Floyd baby! The Beatles sound just, irritated me, you know, that one song, Yellow Submarine, we all live on a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, you get that song stuck in your head and you sing it all day, people start to think you are disturbed or something.

You are certainly right in that Pink had developed a greater following in the UK earlier than in the USA. They had a presence here but nowhere near what it became with DSOTM then Wishing You Were Here. Animals was a bit of a lull but then they came back stronger than ever with The Wall.
I liked your perspective on resonance with The Beatles. To me the bands represent the very different aspects of their respective periods, in my life at least. Two different heads entirely.

That cracked me up. When my son was into rap (about 15 years ago) I remember complaing to my mother about his music and how it aggravated me. All she did was turn to me and say, "Oh yeah? How about we all live on a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine?" "I swear" she went on, "I wanted to smash that record and burn the pieces!"
Thank for the memory and yes, in retrospect, it was an annoying tune.
