Battle of the Bands (The Offspring vs. Pearl Jam)

ROUND 1 BRACKET 4 (The Pile (Misc.))

Okay here's how the voting goes. Since the polls can easily be manipulated this is the voting system we will use:

If you post your vote with a nation of 75 posts or more, that vote counts as two. The poll votes count as 1. Technically your vote can be counted as three votes, if you vote both in the poll and post what you voted for.

However, even with this system in place this entire poll can be easily manipulated. So I ask you, please don't... Let's not cheat shall we?

Also, I'd like arguements from both sides on why that particular band (in this case, either The Offspring or Pearl Jam) should win. So please feel free to post long paragraphs regarding the merits of either The Offspring or Pearl Jam.

The poll will run for exactly 1 day.
After the poll closes. Posted votes will not count.

GET TO IT!!!

This isn't even a contest. Pearl Jam is technically sounder, their music is more varied, their sound is fresher with each album, and most of all, they've evolved.

The Offspring have spent the past 10 years or so putting out Smash under different titles. (Oooh, now it's got a song about a fly white guy! Whoo-hoo!)

Pearl Jam. No contest.

Offspring wins, no contest. They are definately the best. Offspring kicks ass.

Hmmm. You suggest that the Offspring "...wins [sic]" (Japaica, 2004), while I posit that "[t]his isn't even a contest" (SLAGLands, 2004).

I support my point by stating that Pearl Jam "...is technically sounder, their music is more varied, their sound is fresher with each album, and most of all, they've evolved" (2004).

You support your point by stating that the Offspring "...kicks [sic] ass" (2004).

Clearly, the edge in terms of rhetorical support is on the side of Pearl Jam.

The Offspring has my vote. I used to love Pearl Jam...and then they just got annoying. I can't stand their music anymore.

That's a tough one. They both used to kick arse, but have gotten progressively worse.

I'd say Pearl Jam though. Musically, they're a much better band, even if The Offspring have a much better novelty value. That being said, 'Self Esteem' is one of my all time favourite songs.

Toughie. I gotta take The Offspring though. Pearl Jam has some hits, but The Offspring are still producing, and some of their new stuff is pretty good, as well as the old.

Given the choice of the two.....

Pearl Jam, thier music is far more technically sound, and easily more progressive.
Not really a fan though..
Offspring isnt my cup of tea, either ....but they do ahve two songs that dont annoy the crap out of me.....

Heaven's so far away..

and that..."Get a Job " song....

Thats it.

But, on the other hand....if I have to hear these songs anymore:

Jeremy.
Evenflow..
Im still alive.

Im gonna puke on Eddie Vedder.

(Who really wishes he was Jim Morrison.)

(as does that fool from Creed, who thinks hes jesus.)

I am no fan of Pearl Jam, but The Offspring is one of the most annoying bands I ever heard. I'd rather listen to nails on a chalk board. I voted in the poll for Pearl Jam, but please don't count this post for PJ because they don't deserve anymore from me.

I heaven't heard any Pearl Jam...and the Offspring is one of few bands in the post-grunge era that has more than one song that I like... But the Offspring killed of Grunge.... but Eddie Vedder became Kurt Cobain's rival for the leadership of the Grunge movement.....

Because Slag has not only proven to me that he is a good grammarian, but also a good music critic, I must go with hi judgement and say Pearl Jam..that and they happen to be Grunge.

I have never listened to Pearl Jam, but I know that pre-Americana Offspring albums were very good...

They were my favorite band a long long time ago...

So I vote Offspring

The Offspring. OK, so they're crap now, but they don't have that whiny prick Eddie Vedder singing for them. Pearl Jam were a manufactured band, and everyone fell for it and seemed to think there was something profound about them. Seattle Idol winners...
