Battle of the Bands (RATM vs. White Stripes)
ROUND 1 BRACKET 3 (Modern Warfare)
Okay here's how the voting goes. Since the polls can easily be manipulated this is the voting system we will use:
If you post your vote with a nation of 75 posts or more, that vote counts as two. The poll votes count as 1. Technically your vote can be counted as three votes, if you vote both in the poll and post what you voted for.
However, even with this system in place this entire poll can be easily manipulated. So I ask you, please don't... Let's not cheat shall we?
Also, I'd like arguements from both sides on why that particular band (in this case, either White Stripes or Rage Against the Machine) should win. So please feel free to post long paragraphs regarding the merits of either White Stripes or Rage Against the Machine.
The poll will run for exactly 1 day.
After the poll closes. Posted votes will not count.

rage, no contest. a band fronted by an anarchist, with weird guitar squanks coming from some sort of whacked out maoist, getting drunken frat boys to sing along. besides, zack performed at a benefit show for a friend of a friend of mine (free sherman!).

I've heard only one RATM song and it was decidedly anarchistic. I've never heard White Stripes, but based on their name, they sound very nationalistic, that automatically hurts them. RATM easily wins.

white stripes name is ironic im guessing ("a seven nation army couldnt hold me back, theyre gonna rip it off, taking their time right behind my back")
ratm are probably better though, but their really quite naive. white stripes fresher. deffinate politcal leanings as well, but no quite so upfront.
and anyway, what your really wanting to say is that i, johnny, am ace. why thankyou.
I vote RATM...

And don't call Rage Against the Machine just Rage... Why? Cause there is. a metal band called Rage... Frankly I'd take Rage over Rage Against the Machine anyday...
How can you even compare the white stripes to the awsome band Rage Against the Machine. The White Stripes have no talent and they just plain suck. Whoever votes for them has no musical taste whatsoever.

Are you kidding me? The White Stripes are the best thing to come down the pike in a long time. A breath of fresh air. Jack White is unbelievably talented, being a throw back to stripped down, raw, unproduced acts of yesteryear, but still fresh and new and exciting. Meg struggles some, but that's part of the charm. I love the White Stripes!

I can't believe i'm hearing this. The white stripes have no talent. So what if their music has political messages behind it? They just plain suck. While on the other hand, Rage against the Machine are Gods of modern rock.

Saying Jack White has no talent really only shows your ignorance of music in general. RATM is a good band but, the White Stripes, meaning Jack White, have infinitely more raw talent.

The White Stripes do not suck. They are very talented and one of the few modern rock bands to deserve their fame. For starters, there are only 2 people in the group- all of their songs are without a bass guitar (not sure about early stuff but on their latest album they are), and they can still pack a punch in their music. Secondly, they bring the blues back into rock music. Rock needs the blues. If it doesn't have it, it becomes inane shite like Nickelback and Creed (Apologies to any fans of these bands) Thirdly, their lyrics are excellent and very poetic.
That said...RATM were the first band I ever got into, and remain one of my favorites, while I have only just started getting into the White Stripes.

I've had about four RATM albums, and while I think what they have to say is cool, all their songs sound the same. Musically, I'll pick the White Stripes.
Socially? I'm not sure I support anarchy. I'm more of a libertarian communist (traditional sense), but I support and agree with many of the ideals of RATM, I just don't have all that rage. I'll do my thing anyway, regardless of which political style is in power. Women and cats, people. Might as well get used to it.

The White Stripes are a good band, but they pale in comparision with Rage. Even though the Stripes were a breath of fresh air in alot of the crap that has come out recently, I hold Rage too dear for too long to say that I even see a contest.

despite their disturbingly unamerican, anarchistic lyrics, ratm sure makes some good music. only two white stripes songs have entered my "don't dislike" category, and even they weren't that good.

Especially not Audioslave...although Like a Stone was a nice song.

Let me explain my reasoning... Because of Rage Against the Machine's popularity and Rage's obscurity in this millinium, it is kinda difficult to find anything by Rage... It makes things only worse if people refer to RATM as Rage... so I'm thinking I might as well do my part and discourage people from calling RATM Rage... in hopes that they will spread my message around...

zack has been 'working' on his solo album since 1999. he released a song called "march of death" with dj shadow during the run up to the iraq war. and he appeared at a benefit/last-night-of-freedom party for sherman austin.

You may think the above "information" is highly unbelievable, or impossible even, but let's face it- that album has got a higher chance of being released then his solo album. *Le sigh*.

OK so we have a boy band with a guitar, a couple of nice, safe, easy "political" causes, and some painfully inept Red Hot Chili Peppers musical tributes (and I HATE RHCP) up against a scruffy looking muppet and his fat bint sidekick. Personally, Rage Against the Machine - the lyrics are more intelligent and meaningful in my opinion. Plus good musically, but both are; still prefer the RATM style.
I never realised that NS players' opinions on music SUCKS. The fact is, The White Stripes absolutely suck. Any music critic will tell you that. I could play what that so called "drummer" plays just by listening to it. (and yes, i've tried, and no, I don't play drums) On the other hand, RATM is an awsomely powerful band, with awsomely powerful views(not as important as the music). The White Stripes can't even be compared with the awsominity of RATM. All I have to say is, people that voted for The White Stripes absolutely suck.

There is no contest Rage Against the Machine wins in every category. Tom Morello is a phenomonally better guitarrist than Jack White. RATM's lyrics are superior and their message in most of their songs exposes injustices around the world, whether you like it or not. And whoever said that all Rage's songs sound the same obviously has not listened to them at all. Go listen to "Know Your Enemy" and then tell me that the White Stripes are a better band.

white stripes are cool, dead leaves and the dirty ground was my favourite song for a while. and their video clips are amazing. but in the end theyre just another rock band really.
RATM are better. Know your enemy is one of the greatest songs ever.
Their lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking in general and if theyre not, well then theyre powerful... "F*** YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!"
