I'd like to take this chance to express my thanks to those who gave their lives to create a freer world.

From members of my family who made the ultimate sacrafice to those who try and carry the standard of freedom to those who are oppressed.

For those who have lost loved ones in this enterprise I can only express my heartfelt thanks that so far we have escaped the horrors of facism.

Let us hope that this continues. Preferably with no more wars.

as ive spent my afternoon weeping over men who died before i was born, i gave some thought as to how they would have wanted us to spend the day.

they were americans, they would want us to enjoy the freedom their deaths bought for us. have a drink and think of them and how much they would have enjoyed being here to drink it with us.

our deepest thanks and sorrow for each one of them

My hat is off to WWII vets, thus it being the last war that was truly about freedom..

As for all the other wars since.. I feel bad for all the men and women who have died for political wars.

I salute the troops.. not the causes.. at least not since WWII.

Its quite sad this. Seems that the Americans here who bleat their pro war messages are unable to recognize the sacrafices made....

I think its also quite sad that the non Americans cannot recognise the sacrafrice that Amercian serivce men made to assist in the liberation of many countries from Nazi and Imperial Japanese rule.

Why am I not surprised?

I went down to water to pray, to weep over last comrades, to reflect on their loss and the continued lack of their presence in my life means to me. I had no bbq...I do not drink..nor did I have a party..but in somber prayer and reminiscing with fellow vets at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Veteran's of America chapters I belong to.
