As an American, id like to say that the pope is actually a pretty cool dude. Id also like to say that he should watch how he runs his mouth, cuz he might have texas on his ass soon.

NEXT WAR OF AGGRESSION!!!

TEXAS INVADES THE VATICAN!

Texas invaded the vatican yesterday with elite troops of rednecks with shotguns. all 239 vaticanians were reported to be brutally murdered and raped anally by the special forces.

No one had it worse then the Pope though, were was reportedly crucified upsidedown and peed on by all 11 of the texan invaders.

The Italian govt. has taken no steps to defend its religious jewel, due to the fact of mass desertions in the army and navy.

France has surrendered its govt. in hoping to appease this new european power.

America has fully recognized the vatican as the 51st state.

Careful popester, this might happen. just maybe...

I realize that you're not particularly serious here, but I figured I'd take the opportunity to make it so.

I was watching the CBS evening news tonight--a rare occurrence, I assure you--and they did a report on the move by some in the US Catholic Church to deny communion to pro-choice or openly gay Catholics. There's even one bishop in Colorado who has gone so far as to say that he will instruct his priests to deny communion to people who vote for pro-choice politicians.

Now to me, that's ludicrous, although perhaps not for the reason you might think. The fact is that the receiving of the eucharist is a bond between the supplicant and God--the priest is mediator, not judge. The idea is that if you're not worthy to receive the Eucharist, then to take it is a mortal sin, and God will take it out on your ass in hell. It's not the priest's place to decide if you're worthy.

But the point I really wanted to make, and it's the point that the newscast made, was that a large majority of US Catholics disagree with the bishops on this issue. In fact, something like 70% of Catholics think that their bishops ought to stay out of the political endorsement game. It gives me hope.

If it isn't, it ought to be. The Church has historically gotten itself into a world of shit when it interfered in secular affairs. It does make for interesting historical reading though.
