GLOBAL OPTIMISM - A CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT GOOD TIMES

31-05-2004, 06:16
In the spirit of breaking away from all the negative threads of war and political bickering, I have created this so people can discuss the good things about their country and the world.

So what wonderful things are happening around Earth today?

Both home users and companies (e.g. IBM, HP) are starting to realise that Micro$oft Windows is crap, and migrating to GNU/Linux (http://www.linux.org) systems.

Could you explain cold fusion?

Fusion is the combination of two atoms, which right now can only occur under extremely high temperatures and pressures. "Cold" fusion is finding a way to accomplish this without the extreme conditions. It's potentially a great source for energy.

I held an oscar today and experienced some of the highest sound quality in the world sitting directly in front of the sub.

It's how I imagine God would watch a movie.

I got to meet Montel Williams today, and walk around with Crocodile Dundee this weekend.

Times like this that I don't mind working at an amusement park...afterall, it got me on MTV on an episode of "The Newlyweds" last year. I seriously hate Nick and Jessica, but it was an entertaining way to kill a shift.

That's because the only time we have heard of cold fusion was a hoax.

Some guys said they'd done fusion in a test-tube, but they couldn't recreate it, and basically people soon realised it was crap. I'll find a link.

Well there are already viable alternatives...just nobody wants to invest in them because its still cheaper to drill for oil and mine for coal.

Plus anything "nuclear" concerns me. Where would we build the facilities?

Nuclear fusion is not like nuclear fission. It does not require radioactive substances, and does not produce radioactive waste.
