The embodiment of what is wrong with American culture
"You can't be a lead singer in a band if you can't dance."
Singing has nothing to do with dancing. They involve two different senses, and two completely unconnected sensory organs. Yet for some reason one relies upon the other.
This line is from a Disney movie about a band whose lead singer can't dance and they then create a hologram to take her place. Disney movies, which are shown to small children, help shape the lives of their viewers. They should be teaching you quality values, not that music (which involves sound) is reliant upon how the musicians look (since that involves sight).
My point is that American culture is bankrupt, where talent formerly ruled now stands appearance. It doesn't matter how skilled you are, as long as you're drop dead gorgeous (and that you match an extremely specific brand of 'gorgeous').
This is running rampant in todays entertainment world, and I am sick of it.
So, what are your thoughts on cheese?

"You can't be a lead singer in a band if you can't dance."
 None of the music is made by a band with a dancing lead singer.

No you didn't cause if you had you'd have realized that the movie was about more than that. Especially since in the end the lead singer did get her spotlight. Oh and by the way.... it's a friggin' movie!!!!

So all of American culture is summed up in a Disney movie? Hrmmm...does that mean that we can sum up all Canadian culture based upon the actions of the Calgary Flames?

Darn, I was hoping nobody would notice that. I've been caught, blast!
Anyway, my point still stands. That's the way the entertainment industry works, and that line does express it very well.

When groups like "N'Sync" need backup singers... and they don't even play instruments... something is seriously effed up

Do you actually mean to say that this is the way that the entertainment industry works and not the down-fall of the US? Perhaps, it is just a simplistic parable in a movie for children, but what do I know, maybe it's a vast conspiracy. And, I like cheese.
Umm...Fantasia was FAR FROM gorgeous. Yet, she was voted numero uno in American Idol.
And...is there a wrong culture? No. A culture you disagree with? Yes. A culture that is on the wrong path? Yes. But never wrong.

I kinda dance when I sing...
Dance of course meaning fail and thrash around, knocking over anything in my way.
Sing meaning scream like i'm about to cry and occassionally say something coherant. Or shout.

Yep, all canadians are gritty hard workers who play hard, fast and are doing rather well against a team that is better man for man...
Not a bad thing to be.

All Western culture is getting more vain the way I see it. It's not America exclusive, as some would have you believe it. Maybe we should have a 'Let's Not Bash America And Reflect On Ourselves' Day?

I figured a few Canadians would appreciate the usage of the Flames instead of the Canadiens.
Having just found my Rock'nRoll Swindle copy, I find the concept interesting. I find the fact that it is blamed on madern American culture moreso. Remember if you are in a pop band "Don't give up the trick, never play your instrument." Seriously since when has being able to play an instrument or singing been very important in a popular musicain? It's a nice add on if your musican has some talent for music but is far from necessary and likewise relatively few of those with great musical talent become famous as musicians. Entertainment is what it is about, not music - the show is the thing and the music is secondary and it has always been so.

Well, I wasn't going to go that far, just implicate them in a standard World Domination conspiracy, but I suppose that works too.
Then of course there's the whole "actually believing what Disney says in the first place thing".
