Me, I think I'll grill something, drink beer with friends (toasting to the fallen as well), and maybe catch something on the History channel or on cable news for memorial day. Anybody else have plans?

I plan on going to Long Water, and offering up prayers to Grandfather Creator. Lite a ceremonial fire for those of my companions who never left Vietnam while I went home...I will make it down to to my Vietnam Veterans of American chapter and remember with fond memories tell tales with my fellow chapter members of men we lived with in our little corner of Hell...will make it to a burial detail the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars must undertake for those who have given their all, and now will pass on to the next life.

I will cry and I will laugh.....but mostly I will grieve.

I'm gonna have a little barbeque. My grandma's friend's husband was also a vet in WWII, and is going down to the dedication of the new memorial in Washington.

It's Monday.
It started out as Decoration Day, to honor our dead troops in the Civil War. Richard Nixon had it moved to the last monday of every May, and the event was renamed Memorial Day, in honor of all of our fallen soldiers.
I see you're not enthused by this. Don't worry. Veterans' Day, which honors our living soildiers, comes this autumn.

I'm getting dragged to a bloody barbecue... I don't want to go because the last time I was at one the meat made me sick for two days... and also... there will be tons of people I don't know... the only ones I will know... will be my sister and my stepnephew... and that's literally it... gah this sucks.

It sure is. Even though you guys did rebel, you're just as American as your Union comrades.

Ah, it is refreshing to see something such as this. Very good to see that even wounds as deep as those made then can be healed.

Try spending an afternoon at an American Legion post..helping out... just by paying attention to some of these vets will do wonders for them..someone they can talk to bout their experiences..listen to a generation that literally helped changed the world..you'll understand their sacrifices better.
