I usually hold my breath and count to 10 then (while still holding my breath) I take a big drink of water. That usually does the trick for me.

Do not try and get rid of them. They are a super human force. If you try, they get rid of you.

*Spooky music here*

I'm serious. Don't mess with things like the hiccups.

Ok Steph, you're probably going to laugh at this one ... and I promise you I have actually used this method successfully in the past...

Take a glass of water.
Put a pencil lengthwise in your mouth and lightly bite down.
Drink the water with the pencil still in your mouth (as best you can). There must be something with the way the muscles work to get the water down that allows the hiccups to pass, but it's worked for me.
Good luck :)

you just need to concentrate on your breathing, you get hiccups when your diaphragm goes a bit out of whack so just take deep breaths and they should go away

Every time I've had the hiccups I've died trying to get rid of them, so I wouldn't take my advice if I were you. That said, my advice is to find a wolf and offer to exchange your diaphram (the offending muscle) for a one week intensive training session on pack hunting.

another way... hiccups are merely your diaphram spazzing, usually because its tired.
a good way to get rid of them is to pretend you're asleep for a few minutes.. fool your body into thinking its asleep.

or

take a sip of water, hold it in and hold your breath. count to 5. swallow and breath.
take another sip of water. hold it in and hold your breath. count to 10. swallow and take a breath.
take a last sip of water. hold it in and hold your breath. count to 7.5. swallow and take a breath.

then finish the glass of water

Get a glass of water.
Take seven consecutive sips, without taking a breath in between.
Don't know why, but it has always worked for me.
And inexpensive cure too

Stop breathing.

Just for a bit though, I find that works best.

I personally believe in hammer treatment. If you hit your hand with a hammer, your concerns about the hiccups will diminish considerably. This treatment works well with almost any kind of ailment. If I weren't afraid of being shunned by the medical community, I might consider writing a study on this for the Journal of American Medicine. :D

Hopefully your hiccups are long over, but should they recur, this three-tep method always works for me. In fact I rarely have to go past step 1.

Step 1: Get a glass of water. Take a quick sip, hold your breath for a few seconds. Repeat as needed. To check to be sure hiccups are gone, cough. If you still have them, coughing will cause you to hiccup.

Step 2: If step 1 failed, this is the method to try next. Just eat a spoonful of peanutbutter. You only need to do this once.

Step 3: If the hiccups are very stubburn, this is the last thing to try. Eat a spoonful of sugar. Yuck, I know, grotesque, but it works. Don't worry, it almost never gets to this point.

My three-step method works for me every single time.

Correct.

Heres the best way to do this.

Hold your breath until you cant do it any longer...

Exhale through your mouth for four full seconds......one 1000..2 1000.....etc...

Inhale the same way through your nose......1 1000 .....two 1000.....same way.

Repeat.....

Your hiccups will go away.

Works every time.

Holding my breath works for me, or being truly scared. My friends prefer the latter.
