Okay guys I'm going to lay it down how it is.

The truths

I have a girlfriend named Angelina and she is attractive.
I am a 26 year old investor and have plenty of money.
I had a crazy childhood.
I lived in NYC and now I don't.

The lies (told them for self protection and to make my story seem more believable in some cases. "In the I am not form". Telling the truth about them.


I am not married to Angelina.
I do not have a child.
There was no intercourse between me and Angelina before we formally met.
I do not permanently reside in the Bahamas, I stopped by there for a while upon my departure from the US.
I lied about my departure date.
I am not quite as wealthy as I claimed to be, but I still have what most would consider a good load.

This is totally the problem that so many of us have. I don't know if the "truths" you told at the beginning were true or not, but they certainly aren't very exciting.

** Big deal- I don't think anyone really cares what your age is. It's just as good to be 15 as 26 unless you are 15 and lying poorly about being 26. And being an investor is just a job- maybe one that'll make you pretty good money, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here who make more than you- just as there are plenty who make less. And it's certainly not the most interesting of jobs- TGs, for example, sounds much more interesting to me.

See part of the problem is I STILL don't believe he's being honest.. Look at the way his style is when he posts.. not that of a 26 year old adult.. more that of a teenager.. and nothing he has said would explain the High School ip# he has logged into his nation from.. Personally, all i ask of a liar is that they make their lies believable and amusing. i try to never put myself into a position where if a particular person turns out to be lying it would devastate my life.

The issue of lying about oneself on the net interests me. people, knowing that they are anonymous, decide to create a whole new persona for themselves, some, like cuneo, create a whole fictitious life. they think this will make them free in a way

then a strange thing happens, they start making friends on the net. people they come to like and respect. one day they realize that they are not free, they have put themselves into a box where they can never tell their friends the truth. something big happens in their lives....say they get an A on the toughest final their school has to offer... and they cant share the moment with their friends because they are 26 years old on the net.

some people, having painted themselves into a big corner, do the worst thing possible. they stage their own deaths online. ive had this happen a few times and it devastates those who believe the persons lies. and calls into question every bad thing that is reported to have happened to anyone. This is a lie that you cant ever be forgiven for; all you can do is start a new life on another forum.

a few juvenile lies by a highschool kid who feels his life isnt good enough to be respected by the other people online can be forgiven

if you come totally clean

there is nothing wrong with what you are, cuneo. no one expects you to be a more important person than whatever you are in real life. coming totally clean is liberating and can put your net relationships on a "real" level, no more hiding, no more trying to remember what lie you told last.

Well, yes, that's mostly true, until everyone realizes you're lying. You never know if someone is being totally honest online, and you don't care until they start being a loser. CI is a total failure at lying. Another reason to think that he's a high schooler, and not an investor who cheats people out of their money (not saying that all investors do that, just something he's bragged about on several occassions). You'd think he could get a bunch of internet folks to believe him if he could do the same with people who were trusting him with his money.
And as for what Steph was saying...I don't think she was necessarily implying that people can't change, but regardless, you don't want to leave a thief- even one who says he's reformed- unchaperoned in your house with your nice silverware. Kinda like how you wouldn't want an ex- child molester to babysit for you. And kinda like how you wouldn't trust Cuneo, especially with your nice silverware...

You're supposed to be able to lie successfully on the net. If you fail, then you're considered a liar just as if it was in real life. The difference being that it's easier to find a liar out IRL. No one ever questions Steph and Zepp, for example, (well, other than Cuneo, in his own defense) because even if they are lying, they are good at it.

I guess I really don't have a huge problem with Cuneo..rarely read his posts and don't really have a position with people being something they are not..is this Cuneo really that bad a liar..so easily caught in his attempts to make more of his life then it truly is?

Accept your life Cuneo for what you make of it...I'd love to be a 6'2" eyes of blue white 25 yr old...then of course..reality hits me with it's velvet glove and say...25..oh sure..that's believeable..lol..

The thing is, some people feel that it's important to project an image of themselves to others that is not an accurate reflection of who they really are. All of us are guilty of this to some extent. There is one persona you perject in public amongst strangers and another to people you know. People have game faces, poker faces, faces they use at work etc. Some people take it to an extreme. In real life, taking it to the extreme can end up blowing up in you face and creating serious consequences. But on line, there is little risk if any. Cuneo could let his nation lapse and cease to exist and come back the next day with a new nation and a new persona (one more like himself or another fantasy) and start bullshitting with a new group of people. As for me, I'm an introvert through and through. Most of the time I mind my own business and just observe, as you can tell by the amount of posts I've put up. But this topic warranted a comment or two.

I think I agree with Salishe. There are a lot of things that I'd like to be. Heck, I'd love to make more money than I do. I'd love to be married instead of divorced. I'd love to be in my 20's again. But the bottom line is that my life is what it is and I take pleasure in what I've been given.

Cuneo, what you are doing is very reminiscent of Narcisstic PD. If you are simply an average high school student, be happy at the fact that you have the rest of your life to look forward to. Telling a lie to cover up another just keeps the spiral going downward. Tell the truth and find out that people can accept that at its face value.

The thing is, some people feel that it's important to project an image of themselves to others that is not an accurate reflection of who they really are. All of us are guilty of this to some extent. There is one persona you perject in public amongst strangers and another to people you know. People have game faces, poker faces, faces they use at work etc. Some people take it to an extreme. In real life, taking it to the extreme can end up blowing up in you face and creating serious consequences. But on line, there is little risk if any. Cuneo could let his nation lapse and cease to exist and come back the next day with a new nation and a new persona (one more like himself or another fantasy) and start bullshitting with a new group of people. As for me, I'm an introvert through and through. Most of the time I mind my own business and just observe, as you can tell by the amount of posts I've put up. But this topic warranted a comment or two.

but even, and especially, if you are making up your whole life, you have to be prepared for someone to think, "hey this doesn't gel at all" and if people do basically all stop believing you, you've gotta accept it. And you should probably realize that admitting one or two things at a time, but still claiming everything else is true isn't a good strat. Because by the time you've done that two or three times, no one is gonna believe it anymore.

Oh, and in a setting like this, you've gotta keep in mind that you're not completely anonymous- because there are people like Steph who know enough to tell that you're not being honest. (so anyway, at least don't lie about the city you're in)

You're right...I meant to say it in some way implying that I went home directly after eating lunch...but then I forgot...That was just the best thing I can think of...though I should be able to come up with something else...because I seriously lie about stuff (not just exclusion) just because I'm too lazy to explain something. And not only when it's something that will get me in trouble :wink:
