The Foxxinnian- The Central African country of Niger is soon to go under a name change as ordered by the NAACP [National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples] because of their offensive name.
Niger, a third-world country, contains only 11,000,000 peoples and is roughly twice the size of Texas. The NAACP, which contains nearly 500,000 members, has constantly complained to Niger that the name is 'A symbol of former White-opression.' After years of complaints the country finally gave in.
"This name is the reason why Niger has not been able to move up on the world stage," NAACP President Kweisi Mfume told reporters. "In a world run by White and Asian countries no-one will take a black nation seriously if it's called Niger. It is only one letter off from [n-word]! This name change will only cause good for the Nigeriens."
Some Nigeriens thought otherwise. "Just because it almost looks and sounds like [n-word] it doesn't mean that it is the same word!" said Niamey resident Njoni Mjeno. "And it didn't come from former White-oppression!"
"Yes, Niger does mean black in Latin but somehow in America they added another 'g'" Nigerien President Hama Hamadou told The Foxxinnian, "But this has been going on for a very long time and we are tired of it."
The Nigerien government then showed reporters the new name.
The new name that was shown was Kanem-Bornu after the empire that ruled over the country nearly a thousand years ago.
Soon after, many European nations began to take notice in the former French colony. The UN also became interested in Kanem-Bornu and offered them a program called 'Food for Sand' where Kanem-Bornu would send the UN sand and the UN would send back the sand's weight in food. When asked why the UN replied, "Because they're a new nation and they need all the help they can get."
Upon hearing news of the UN's proposal the Nigerien President was quoted saying, "Maybe it was worth those millions of dollars."
