Why they hate us...
I've had a revelation. In many different topics I have seen people go on long rants (some apparently tried to write novels) about why the Arab world hates America. Typically these rediculously long responses are followed by attacks on Bush and republicans in general.
Let me clarify some things:
Both ends of the political spectrum are to blame.
CONSERVATIVE / REPUBLICAN: We are accountable because we are the ones who take action against them (ie: afghanistan, iraq). A couple of bombs go astray, a couple of dumbass MPs get caught abusing prisoners, and radical Islam attracts new followers. So yes, the attack that so many liberals have posted has merit.
LIBERAL / DEMOCRAT: This party is more responsible for the corrupting of America's image. I don't think a society which doesn't allow women to show their faces in public will be very accepting of gay marraige, for example. Also, they disapprove of the Howard Stern type stuff that is becoming more and more commonplace.
Suffice to say, we are all at least partly responsible. So now that we know this, next time you go to one of the "novel" topics, we should try to restrain our political biases at least a little.

I don't think it has anything to do with the political spectrum. The problem lies with foreign policy...

no, its cultural and religious differences. nothing makes me angrier than to hear somebody say something like that, if its the damn foreign policy that is no doubt bushs fault, then why werent they just as happy as they could be before 2000?
I do not see any liberals backing evil and imperialist schemes like PNAC.

The Arab world has disliked and hated the west for awhile now, correct? For about a thousand years. America is a shining symbol of western civilization and a focal point for that hatred.
A conversation I had with the old lady down the street from me, who is one of the sharpest individuals on the face of the earth, even at 82 years of age. Not wordforword, but damn close. She's the best debater I've ever seen, and all but neutral in everything imagineable.

Unfortunately, the problem is so much deeper than just a political ideology. Its a mixture of foreign policy, historical events, culture, religious differences, social behavior, economics, etc....
Each side of the political spectrum can easily point to the other to shoulder the blame, but the truth is that you can make a case to blame both or neither.
Personally, I blame Tom Green.
Okay, is the poll malfunctioning?
A very obvious left-wing faction is saying that right-wingers are to blame, but nobody is actually coming out and saying it.
You may hate Bush, but the poll is about the political affiliations in general, not a specific person.
Final note: one vote per person, not one vote per nation per person. Spinning the poll accomplishes and proves nothing. Except, of course, reinforcing your sense of influence by producing results that mean nothing.

The foreign policy was already pretty arse, and had been since WW2 (or before). Bush just made it a bit worse, that's all. Just because it's worse now doesn't mean it wasn't already much worse than most other countries in the world.

You make it sound as if the USA is hated by whole masses. A distorded version of the truth. Truth is that there are a few wacko's who hate the USA and who get excessive media exposure to the point where they seem to be everywhere. Truth is that the US is more disliked than hated. Disliked for the arrogance and ignorance it shows, and for quite some time now I should add, in its foreign policy.

Because Clinton didnt treat them very well either. Noone has.

I said other reasons because I think many things are responsible, but I couldn't pick the "equally responsible" because I think extreme conservatives are more to blame. Those who push their religion on others had a big help in starting the hatred that Arab countries have for America. Missionaries that converted people at the end of a sword have a lot to do with the Muslim view of Christianity. And then the conservatives want to legislate Christianity into the law of the land...
Another problem is the full support for Israel even when they take helicopters and shoot missiles into homes and destroy an entire town every time one guy kills two or three in a bombing.
But there is also the fact that Muslims see MTV, Melrose Place, etc and think that is what all Americans are like - so they think Americans are an immoral people. This adds fuel to the fire, but didn't start it. After all, what we do in our own country doesn't really affect them. It is only when they believe we are trying to force this "immorality" on them that they feel threatened. And by they, I mean the radical fringes of Islam.

Ahhhh an unbiased poll that basically slams liberals/democrats as “corrupting of America's image”. Good one!!
Were you looking for an unbiased response as well? :?: :?:

it wasnt fine before 2000, why do you think they tried to blow up the wtc back in 98, why do you think they killed the isralis at the sarjevo olympics, what do you think the iran hostage crisis was about? our foreign policy started ruining our image since the 1950's. its one of those problems with being in power, in order to stay in power, you need to piss people off. middle eastern hatred for us just took center stage in sept, 2001 and has been growing faster ever since.

I love the totally unbiased nature of this post. A couple of bombs go astray? How about 'invading multiple countries and installing dictators' or 'bombing civilians' or 'My Lai'? You have a point that both sides are to blame, but both sides need more blame than 'a few MPs'.
LIBERAL / DEMOCRAT: This party is more responsible for the corrupting of America's image. Don't be so stupid. You think Arabs really care if you let gays marry? The actions of America abroad corrupt your image. Both democrats and republicans are to blame because both democrats and republicans invade other country and have disastrous foreign policies.

We are both responsible, in a way. However, while I may not necessarily agree with the way the occupation of Iraq is being handled, I do think it was justified, and could've been a great oppritunity to resurrect the American image. It still might do just that.

yuppers
that and that we cant tell what the average arab on the street thinks of us. the closest thing they have to a free press is al jezeera.
terrorist hate us because it furthers their plan of regional/group domination.
its not our policies, not that they help, they hate us because we are easy to hate and are a symbol of all that they consider wrong in the world
but to get them to not hate us we would have to change long time policies like our support of israels right to exist. and perhaps having all US women wearing the veil. and maybe giving up the WWF. you know, things we would NEVER do.
