Even as a liberal I have to admit that Bush's speech was pretty good. I'd have to say that it made up for his press conference fiasco

Words, words, words. I am very liberal, but also a realist. I had many friends killed in Vietnam. It is electiontime- his numbers are at an alltime low. Actions are what really tell.

I'd like to see you write better speeches then the president writes. and yes he writes them himself.

and it's not his fault that people are getting killed in iraq. people are inlisting on their own behalf knowing very well that they might die.

Regarding point 1:

Here are articles on some of his speechwriters - all found in one page of searching on yahoo:

Michael Gerson :

Daniel McGroarty:

David Frum (the one who coined the phrase 'axis of evil'):

Not saying that GW doesn't review them first and perhaps make some changes to suit his speaking style. But he does NOT write them all from scratch.

And lest we forget, it was Condi's deputy who edited a speech just before the State of the Union address to remove the reference to uranium from Niger.

You think he edits the boss's own words?

Regarding point 2:

Yeah... it's the soldiers fault they are dying. Damn them for starting this war in the first place....

Much ado about nothing. What he said will placate his supporters and irritate anyone else it its lack of content/glossing over real issues. I love how we're going to tear down the Abu Ghraib prison...yes, friends, to condemn our own attrocities, we're going to tear down the building in which they occured. Woohoo.

Aside from that, only thing worth hearing was aobut how we're going to turn over sovreignity to an Iraqi government, yet we're going to keep all troops and "regional offices" there, to make sure things get done "on time" (or some such vague expression). That's an interesting new definition of sovreignity.

And who wants to bet that if things go right, it's because we are there for support; but if things go wrong, it's because the country has a young and inexperience government?

I don't know of any modern presidents who wrote their own speeches. Maybe Carter, but he was a disaster.

Funny...even on his worst night, Bush is a lot more fluent than RedArrow...errrrr, MKULTRA is. Guess that's what comes from having an MBA from Harvard.

But hey, Bush can always use the Kerry "excuse" and blame his speechwriters!

Yup, just what I was thinking as I watched. After about the second "point," I realized that, were this any other speaker, I would probably be asleep by that time.

Ever spoke for over half an hour in front of over 10-30 million people in America and God-knows-how many people in the world?

Funny, I don't think we elected MKULTRA to do that. I think we'd expect better from those we had. Bush couldn't even pronounce the name "Abu Ghraib." Sad.

I'm just annoyed as hell being deprived of good music from the radio.

And yes...the pure mixture of intelligence/stupidity in these forums is reaching an all-time high. It takes it's toll.

But, I'm pretty sure I was responding to TRA, right?

I figured that was a product of frustration. Don't start sliding down that hill - you've shown you can do much better. I just wanted to point it out, and I can certainly identify with the lack of quality on the radio.

I'm not going to pretend that I know who MKULTRA is, though. Deal with him as you see fit, I suppose. Sometimes ignoring a person can be just a strong a statement as addressing them.

Damn this server...

EDIT: He does sound like TRA, now that you mention it.

The only reason Bush's speeches are good is because someone writes them for him and then someone else tells him how to say the words in it properly.

I tried to watch some of his speech, but when I tuned in he was going through what seemed to be a vague, bad newscast, listing (and spinning) what was happening right now in Iraq. I tend to be pretty well informed and I don't need Dubya to interpret the raw info for me. It iritated me and I decided I'd just read the hightlights tomorrow and changed the channel.

I’m suggesting that they send UN Observers to the next Election, given how that last one went down. From what I’ve seen it’s the War on Democracy in the US of A that you guys should really be worried about. You guys so lost the right to criticize other nations about electoral corruption after your last Federal Election. Time for a little more naval gazing and a little less Naval action to distract the masses.
