wudnt surprise me, the italian police force gets hella funded. wen i went to rome they had the snazziest uniforms i'v ever seen with a bike on every street corner. they also know how to keep hold of their money by not wasting it on any of that pesky crime stuff :P

I'm just saying that it is a matter of perspective: kilted soldiers are likely to call up images of C18th and C19th conflicts for most people, whereas I am pointing out that the kilt lived on in active service in conflict much more recently than that.

Alessandro Pettachi has just won his 8th stage of this years Giro d'Italia, setting a postwar record for wins in a single year by taking the sprint for stage 15. His speed for the last 100 meters was about 42 mph, not to shabby when you consider thats after almost 6 hours of racing. Tomorrow the race heads into the Dolomites and the last few stages will belong to the climbers.

For all you Americans out there, the Giro is the first of the three European grand tours (the Tour de France is the second and the Veulta de Espana is the third) and the reason Italians will never consider Lance Armstrong a true great cyclist. Lance refuses to race the Giro and only concentrates on the Tour. All the great cyclists raced both in the same year and the true legends achieved success in both.
