Do the ends justify the means in a war or other conflict?

Depends how bad you want to win.

America is a winner.

Even if it means sacrificing all your principles? Not all victories are worth winning, if elsewhere, you lose too much.

Principles are over rated. I regularly lose because of my stupid adherance to these boat anchors.
Principles Bah!

Indeed, principles often hold me back from taking a knife to half the people I know... Oh wait, maybe principles aren't all bad. Besides, principles are sort of a personal thing so if you call them "Boat Anchors" why do you have them at all?

Ah, a figure of speech! Right.

Well, it depends. You want to get somewhere, you win and get there, but sometimes it's a case of, too much trouble. Not all victories are worth it, is what I am saying. I know I have won a couple which only made me look like the bad guy, or had hidden costs. Cuts both ways sometimes.

The ends do not justify the means.

I get it, but is looking out for your own interests ahead of everybody elses really that bad?
If you're getting pushed around, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yes if you want to live in a decent society. You won't always be the one that gets to the head of the queue under your own steam.

How was Saddam pushing the USA around?
He stubbornly refused to surrender the nation and go into exile.

First, I wasn't talking about saddam and second, I mean that if you're always watching out for everybody else what's gonna happen to you? You gotta take care of yourself too. And the U.S. has a responsibility to it's own citizens and they should take priority over citizens from another country.

All right what were you talking about then? Obviously the USA. And someone pushing it around, right? In context with war, right?

Has any nation done anything to the USA since Pearl harbour? Anything serious enough to start a war over?

I actually wasn't talking about the U.S., I was speaking hypothetically and thinking about an incident that I experienced in the third grade. And to your question, No, prolly not.
