I dont think he can become any stupider even if he wasnt wearing a helmet.
Why would someone wear a mouthguard when riding a bike?

Besides, the article doesn't really say how he fell. He could have hit a rock, stick, or hole in the road.

Uh, he can't do that. He sucks at skiing and when he fell because he sucks he blamed the Secret Sevice agents and called the men who will take a bullet for him a son of a *****.

This is yet another RL thing that mirrors the fictional West Wing series long after the episode went out.
So, we now have:
A problem aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia (Series 1, Episode 22)
An incident in Iraq (Series 1, Episode 22)
American intervention in Puerto Prince to restore democracy in Haiti (Series 2, Episode 22), (Series 3, Episode 1)
The president riding his bicylce into a tree (Series 1, Episode 1)
Hostages held by rebels in Columbia (Series 2, Episode 13)
The assassination of a high profile member of a middle eastern government (Series 3, Episode 22) (still awaiting RL news to report this one)

What is the point of threads like this? Do we need to know everything the president does? What does him falling off a bike have to do with politics? Besides, anybody can fall off a bike. Ever seen the tour de france? I doupt any of you can bike better than any of them and they fall all the time.

I've never seen the Tour De France actually and since I don't know you I'm not going to take your word for it that people fall off all the time. Kerry and Bush both fell off bicycles recently.
When Kerry fell off, the right-wing blogs mocked him mercilessly. What we're seeing here is a bit of the same from the other side.
But it's all very stupid. People fall off bikes. It means nothing.

My next door neighbor is too young to even know about intoxicants other than cough syrup which he does'nt like, and my neighbor across the way loves to talk about her spills despite the fact I've tried to get her to drink since the first Gulf War. Now shut your ****ing mouth up until you can get facts straight. Is Armstrong a loser because he fell off his bike?

While I don't swear at people when I correct them, I do admit that attacking a person for falling off a bike is rather silly. I'm an avid fan of the Tour de France and yeah they fall down often when pressed by others in large crowds.

Lol - well I've never met Lance Armstrong so in all fairness I don't feel well positioned to form opinions about him. He might well be a loser for all I know. The straightening process which you seem quite keen to emphasise the necessity of is also rather difficult since the total absence of anything that might be considered a 'fact' from the post in question would make this adjustment rather tricky.

Lance Armstrong is one of the greatest cyclist ever, but certainly not number one. One thing that makes him a great man is that he beat cancer and grew to become a great athlete.
People fall in the TDF, but if you get to see some of it on tv next july, you'll know why. Besides, they ride 4000km in 3 weeks, I don't think most of you here have done that in your whole life.

He was riding a bike in texas, which is similar to riding a bike in florida. The land is as flat as a motherboard. I could ride for 50 miles in texas and not get tired. Before my dad's (who is 48 ) schuedle started getting busy and he had free tim he rode his bike to work every day, but this was in the hills of massachusetts, significantly tougher than riding a bike in texas. When armstrong fell it was a chain reaction becuase in those races everyone is packed together.

A little update on this story--from my blog entry (http://incertus.blogspot.com) earlier today.
I'm talking, of course, of the reason President Bush took a tumble on his mountain bike in Crawford last week. Now anyone who's been on a bicycle knows that sometimes, shit just happens and you go tumbling ass over appetite with a little road rash to show for it. Your friends give you shit for a while and laugh at you, and as long as there's no broken bones, everything is cool.
So this happened to Bush. What's the response? According to White House spokesman Trent Duffy, "It's been raining a lot and the topsoil is loose. You know this president. He likes to go all-out. Suffice it to say he wasn't whistling show tunes." That's our badass president, I guess.
But Kos did some checking (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/5/23/201822/996) on the precipitation levels in Crawford Texas for the last couple of weeks, and guess what? It had rained heavily on the 13th--9 days before President Bush's bike trip. It rained lightly on the 14th, and not since then.
So another lie, and one of no consequence. But why? Has this administration just gotten so unable to tell the truth that it has literally turned into Big Brother? Should we just immediately assume that for these guys, up is indeed down? (We've already done the war is peace one.)
I know. I strayed away from the topic of this thread a bit in my blog entry, but I was making a different point there. But still--why lie about something so inconsequential as falling off a mountain bike while riding through the woods? It happens. He got bruised up. No big deal.
And yet his handlers have to turn him into some sort of badass and blame it on some non-existent rain. Where's the shake your head in disbelief smiley when you need one?
people fall, no big deal.
Yeah, but I dont know anyone that has fallen off of a bike unless they were intoxicated. Its very easy to ride a bike.

Guys in the grand tours fall because 189 riders are jockeying for position at speeds you could only dream of achieving on a bike. Lance isn't a loser, he's just not gonna be thought of as one of the true cycling greats until he rides the Giro dÍtalia along with the TDF. He could even score some points by riding the Vuelta de Espana after the Tour. Or weren't you aware that there were three European grand tours?
