"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Of course, you're probably here in the United States, posting that crap. Did you ever stop to think... oh wait, loaded question. Liberals don't think. They just spout crap. They know that if this were really a "Hitleresque regime", therir asses would be in a concentration camp. Instead, they sit on their lard asses in a comfortable home, comparing Bush to Hitler. Get a life, loser.

Congratulation on exercising your right to be offended in response to someone else exercising their right to political commentary (even if it's pointless and baiting and destructive). Freedom cuts both ways.

"Offended" is not in my vocabulary. "Pissed off at obvious stupidity" is, though.

Actually, no, Hitler didn't send his opponents to the concentration camps before he had established himself as dictator. Prior to that his opponents could freely critisize him and his party. :)

Fair enough, but my point still stands. The freedom that allows this sort of political statement is the same freedom that allows you to disagree with it and to disparage one "type" of freedom is to disparage them all.

I'm not disparaging anyone's freedom. I'm questioning the wisdom of comparing the elected president of the United States to a mass murderer.

I'm not disparaging anyone's freedom. I'm questioning the wisdom of comparing the elected president of the United States to a mass murderer.

Fair enough again, but just remember that such questioning, no matter how much you may disagree with the way it's phrased or even the basic intent of the question, is the cornerstone of US government and the root of all our freedoms. To often today, people are willing to trample on the rights of others to question because they don't like the tone or the message or, more often, the insecurity it makes them feel. The fact that your post was less of a focused "questioning of the questioning" and more of a rant, led me to believe that you might be treading dangerously close to this. If I was wrong, I apologize.

For what it's worth, I agree that comparing Bush to Hitler in such a crass and bludgeoning way is pointless rhetoric that only serves to polarize along basic ideology and obscure the true and important issues. However, it's better to ignore childish photoshopping than give them more importance by granting them a response they don't really deserve.

Hitler was elected.
Like someone said, his murders came in greater numbers after power was consolidated.

The killing of pacifists as suspected traitors has begun with Nick Berg.

Whoa, hold up there, C. Don't you think that perhaps that's a little unreasonable? Obviously something wasn't right with Nick Berg and the administration shares some of the responsibility, but it's much more likely to be administrative ineptness or simple bad logistics than a wholesale slaughter of pacifists, don't you think? At least, what evidence have you seen that made you believe that Bush sanctioned the murder of Nick Berg.

I also remember you saying that Berg was a Menonite, like yourself. Where did you find this out? All the information I've seen indicates that he was Jewish and he was even buried in a Jewish cemetary.

Whilst I feel that comparisons between Bush and Hitler are foolish and immature to say the least I cannot help but agree that this piece of prose is remarkably true of politics both then and now.
