Kerry's VP Poll

The Lands of Alex
22-05-2004, 17:30
This just a poll to see who the NationStates' people would choose as Kerry's vice president. Here is how it will work: vote for the person you want as his vice president and 3 days later the votes will be tallied. The person coming in fifth place will be replaced by a new person selected by a different poll and you will vote again, until Kerry choses a VP. Post who you voted for and why if you want to.

He should pick me because I can pay him too.

Of the choices you have listed I think I would pick Wes Clark. But John McCain would beat him over anyone.

Same here. Kerry-McCain '04!

And I do NOT want Clark as VP after this little quote from a NH debate:

And when the president does two things I agree with . . . one of them attacking the Taliban in Iraq . . . then I'm going to say so

I like Kucinich, but I think it might actually end up being Ralph Nader so that Kerry can capture those important Green Party votes.

Wow, Clark said that? That's almost a Bushisim.

what are you talking about...mccain is a republican Technically, I suppose so. Really, he's about as conservative as Joe Lieberman is liberal. He's my favorite Republican.

I'm not a big Kerry fan, but one thing I can tell you:

If he were to pick Dean I'd consider voting for him. Dean has been given the bad wrap about getting angry too quickly. I don't see this as a problem, I see this as an asset. It shows that he's human and can make human mistakes, unlike the rest of the candidates that are portrayed as demi-gods.

All politicians are whores, plain and simple. :-D

I like Denny K's ideas and Howard D's attitude but I think Edwards is the best pick.

He's good-looking, which sadly enough is still a factor in the good old USA, and he balances the ticket geographically. It's like another Dan Quayle.

He has a good issue in the trade imbalance and exporting jobs too.

I voted Clarke on the poll because on paper he seems the best cincher, but when he was campaigning (forgiving the slip-if you slip once or twice, that's human-when you do it everytime you speak, that's frightening...) he would always tell these stories, "I was in Kansas the other day talking to mill workers about the trade defecit, and one of them approached me and said, 'Bush is making deals with the flying monkeys and because of that I had to sell my first born son to the gypsies, what are you can you do about it..." (obviously I made that example up) which always strikes me as disengenious(sp...man I hope you all know the word I was going for)...

So probably Edwards would make the better choice, though it should be noted that that opinion is 95% fresh from my ass.

Thanks to every one who has voted. In 3 days I'm going to take out the fifth place person and add a new one. I'm thinking it might be John McCain, but Hillary Clinton, John Breaux, Nancy Pelosi, and Bill Richardson still have a chance. Who do you think i should put up next?

McCain isn't too liberal. Most of his years in the senate, he's voted with the Conservative side 80% or more. He's against abortion. He's even to the right of the President in Iraq, he thinks we need more troops there (or at least thats what his stance was for a while).

If you want a Liberal Republican look at Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island.

Do someone realistic. John McCain and Bill Richardson have both stated repeatedly that they won't be the VP. Hillary Clinton won't want to be the Kerry VP because she can't/won't be able to run for President in '08 if Kerry's in office. Breaux, Pelosi, or, especially, any of the Midwestern governors would be the better choice. People don't tend to look at the Midwestern governors as serious VP candidates - or Dick Gephardt, for that matter - but the Midwest is a highly swing area - Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and, to a lesser extent, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Indiana being up for grabs.

I can tell you my dream candidate--Gary Hart of Colorado. Doubt it happens mainly because of his age, but damn, would I like to see him tussle with Cheney in a debate, or with Ridge, should Cheney get the heave-ho.

Second choices? John Edwards would be okay. If you're looking at people in swing states, Mary Landrieu instead of John Breaux from Louisiana would be a decent pick in my view.

Pelosi isn't going anywhere--she's got too much of a shot at being the first female Speaker of the House, and that's too big to pass up. And if John Kerry picks a Senator from a state with a Republican governor as VP, I'll personally hunt him down and kick his ass.

Ok scratchong McCain and Richardson (though I really would like a McCain ticket) is probaly a good idea. And about Hillary Clinton and running '08 I campletely agree, I always have thought the same thing. I know Kerry and Breaux have met so I'll keep him. Pelosi is influentual in the House so i'll keep her. I'll add Gephardt and Mark Warner to my list o fposibles to replace as it looks now Al Sharpton.

She's in line to become the first female Speaker of the House if the Democrats can wrest it away from the Republicans--and that's not out of the realm of possibility in 2004, although I don't want to get my hopes up. But even if it doesn't happen in 2004, she's not going to give up that kind of a shot for what is really a far less powerful position. Besides, if she makes Speaker, she's third in line for the Presidency anyway.

I've been thinking and i've replaced Pelosi with Landrieu's (party because being from LA [the state] I know more about her) which kinda scratch's John Breaux's whole southern appeal, plus she's a woman and a friend of Kerry's. Also when do ya'll think I should start round 2?

Landrieu has the added advantage of being from a state with a Democratic governor--no loss of the seat there. The problem with either Breaux or Landrieu, however--and I voted for both of them when I lived in Louisiana--is that neither of them is going to do much to excite the progressives in the party, and they're not all that happy with Kerry as it is. I'm not suggesting that a selection of either would make them run to Nader again, but it won't increase the excitement level. Landrieu would do more than Breaux in that regard, but if you're looking to carry Louisiana, either will do the job.

Bush carried Louisiana in 2000 and Blanco and Kerry have very differnet politics.
