What is going on?

What the hell is going on!? We can't even bitch about the cuss filters now! And Forum 7 was deleted. Why? It was an outlet for all the irritating threads. Bring it back. THis forum is supposed to be for fun, not worrying whether we will be deleted ot have our topic locked. Just cut it out. Let the forum be a bastard until it's moved to the new server. We don't have long to wait. Just deal with it.

I hear there's been a decision to cut down on all friviolity. No more "spam lite", here or anywhere.

With respect, you are perhaps overstating the point.
Forum 7 was always intended to be temporary, and was announced as such.
The Spam Lite crackdown will only apply to a couple of types of thread currently exempt from spamming rules, such as Last Post Wins. Currently, no formal ruling has been made.
By no means does this mean that all light-heartedness and fun will be leached out of this forum.

That sounds like a great idea for the health of the server and a terrible idea for the health of the community. The frivolous side of NationStates is fun, even if it is almost entirely lacking in redeaming qualities. It's worth having around if only as an escape from the sometimes too serious RP and debate threads.
I spoke out against increased mod involvement in the everyday affairs of NationStaters last time and I'll speak out again. We don't need more moderation and we don't need stricter rules. What we need is a place to be ourselves and enjoy ourselves. Certainly some rules are appropriate and do wonders for keeping this place a happy and wholesome place for posters of all ages, but there is no reason to take that notion and blow it so far out of proportion that every forum goer becomes paranoid and feels they must hold their tongues to avoid deletion or other moderation.
In short, "we don't need no... mod-er-a-tion!"

Obviously some people don't feel this way. There is at least one anti-moderators thread on this PAGE... and it's not locked, and it's 6 pages long, and the original poster is not an ex-nation (eg, deleted.)

If you read all of my post you were realize that that was just hyperbole. Of course we need some moderation, but we do not need them telling us how we can and cannot amuse ourselves. I think we agree that pornographic or graphically violent pictures and content should be removed, but I do not believe that there is any particular need to remove threads like "Last one to post here wins." I fail to see how that thread harms anyone except for very minor annoyance.

Currently, they are allowed. Nothing has changed in that regard. But they are, in my opinion, parasitic, quite immature, and worthy of the spam label. I would discourage them. Whether the policy changes, remains to be seen.

So you want to see MJ666, tub girl, and goatse and the like every other page? Want your threads to be spammed totally? That is what no moderation means.
You can always move on to a forum with less moderation, such as "that which shall not be linked due to porn popups". According to a quick google search, there are millions out there.

Sir or Madam, you have just shown yourself in a very poor light.
If you would read Our Earth's post in full, you would see that his last statement was a bit of frivolous hyperbole. In fact, he stated as much in a following post. His argument, when taken in full, was clear and reasonable, and by no means suggested that a total lack of moderation was desirable.
However, you were lazy enough to read only the last line, and in the process, have made a fool of yourself.

MichaelJackson666, in his many incarnations. Spammed up threads with really vile sexually explicit nonsense. (Mind you, I don't find all sexually explicit nonsense vile, but his most certainly was.)

Is that nasty? I could have said much worse, certainly. It's difficult to respect the opinion of someone who jumps into a debate based on one line, taken entirely out of context, which completely misrepresents the spirit of what was said.

Well, I do get short-tempered with people who either intentionally or through laziness misinterpret or misrepresent what someone's said. Maybe I was a bit nasty. Daistalla has my apology for the tone, if not the content of my message.

Yes, I'm entirely sure that's what happened. If you need a recap, I'll provide it.

I've highlighted the pertinent passages to show that Our Earth never suggested no moderation was needed (except in his humorous last line, which was taken out of context), in fact he stated out right that some moderation is needed.
When Daistalla focused on that one line s/he showed that s/he either failed to read Our Earth's post, or chose to misrepresent his meaning. Either one, as I said, shows Daistalla in a poor light.
