OMG!!!! Falls off chair.. (Israel Resolution)

20-05-2004, 01:25
America didn't vote for it, but they didn't veto it, you'd almost think it was an election year or some thing.. None the less, all I can say is about freaking time! Chalk one up, it doesn't happen often!

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution on Wednesday calling on Israel to stop demolishing Palestinian homes following widespread bulldozing in the Gaza Strip

The United States abstained on the measure, approved by the other 14 council members, after negotiations with Algeria, representing Arab nations. The final text was watered down to prevent a veto from Washington, Israel's closest ally, diplomats said.

The resolution calls on Israel to respect its obligations under international law and insists "on its obligation not to undertake demolition of homes contrary to that law."

I suppose the resolution is OK, seeing as it had to be cut down to reasonable wording so it wouldn't be vetoed, and thus couldn't betoo extreme.

....And that has exactly what to do with what Israel did? You're a terrorist, so we'll be terrorists too? Ummm...

Israel is in a better moral position than Palestine. Therefore, when they sink below their morals, they must be admonished. I'm not saying that I think most of Israel's actions in the West Bank and Gaza are wrong, as I think they're right. However, this latest attack by Israel was just brutal, and they deserved at least a warning from the UN, as they recieved today.

Ah yes, the mighty American...so sure in his beliefs. Israel and palestine are not "terrorizing" each other, sorry to destroy your happy little buzzword. It's a war. The funny thing about wars is, get this, people kill each other. I know that's old school, but you look back on every war we've ever been involved in without the intent to conquer our enemy...Korea, Vietnam, and the political power grab on Terrorism. None were or are winable. At least the Israeli's protect themselves. How can you say that eye for an eye is not an applicable concept in this situation?? We lost two towers. Two pathetic bank buildings, and what roughly 3000 people? I live in a small town (48,000) that's not even a tenth of our population. Yet we have declared an unendable war, crashed our budget, killed our youth, and shamed the nation, not to mention done the same on all the "terrorist countries". All this over a relatively minor attack. We got hit once, Israel is attacked on a daily basis. They do not terrorize they counter-attack. Now, let's put this on a level you might comprehend...Imagine being in a room, now imagine having 8-9 guys throwing bricks at you. You wouldn't just sit there and say "well, eventually justice will be triumphant and my neighbor *representing the UN* will save me." You'd pick up downed bricks and throw back. It's called self defense, and if it can justify a murder, it can certainly justify a military operation. The Palestinians consistently hit Israeli homes, children, women, all people, whereas the Israelis focus on destroying the men responsible for attacks(like all things, some innocents will be damaged, but they are not the stated target, collateral damage is inevitable). Do some reading, then come back and post your political compost.

Ummm... :roll:My point is the destruction of the homes of the parents of suicide bombers eliminates the very real, whether you think so or not, financial benefiet of sending a Palestinian youth to kill himself or herself and murder Isaraeli civilians. Without these actions the bombings and bloodmoney pay-offs will become an even larger cottage industry than they are now in Palestinian areas.

And I suppose this will put an end to terrorism now? :P

Why doesn't the UN adopt a resolution calling for the Palestinian terrorists to stop blowing themselves up in malls and such?

Let the Israelis and Palestinians settle it themselves, a completely peaceful resolution of the conflict is never going to happen.
