The Late Great Elvin Jones, Sept 9,1927 - May 18, 2004

Pure Thought

It would be a shame to let the death of a drummer like Elvin Jones --- a drummer's drummer --- go by without paying tribute to him.

I first saw him when I was younger and several times afterwards. His fluid power and grace had to be heard and seen.

At 76, he died too soon.

Respect, dude.

I had the pleasure of watching the genuis play, one of the finest drummers ever. I'll be listening to Coltrane Quartet albums tonight and remembering the man.

Thanks for putting up a tribute.

Thanks for posting. I've been listening to my recordings since I heard.

I've never started a topic before, but when I realized that nobody else here seemed even to have noticed I couldn't bear it. A man who could do what he did deserves a proper farewell.
