From my U.S. History Book:
The British killed 5 people in the Boston Massacre. However, 5 people is not a massacre. The name "Boston Massacre" is the result of propaganda for Anti-British among Americans.
Throughout the majority of America's history, people were very racist against blacks. Even in the North, before the Civil War. Being black in the nation of America was sometimes a life of fear.
By the 1860's the Native Americans have lost almost all their land and were forced to live in a tiny strip of land. They lived a life of broken treaties with America and being pushed around.
Irish and other immigrants who fled Europe to pursue a better life in the U.S. were treated like crap if they decided to work in a Northern factory. It sometimes got as bad as to an Irishman's arm would've gotten cut off from machinary and the factory owner would merely fire the man for being "physically disabled"
etc etc...
Remember, we're taught to be as patriotic as any other nation. It's the fact that many kids do not care about other nations, and that the U.S. is the most powerful nation militarily (sp?) that drives into their heads that the U.S. is the best and most powerful nation and that we're the most justified nation and that your all evil.
Especially Canada and Britain
Man...I'm lucky to notice this at such a young age.
