A Great Man Lost: Farewell Mr. Beaver

Jim Beaver: Marine, Hells Angel, Teacher, and role model for hundreds of people.

I make this thread to honor the passing of Jim Beaver, a teacher of mine and a wonderful human being who recently died of cancer. He was to good a man to go out like that.

A student of Morristown High School for years, and later a teacher at the same school, Mr. Beaver has made an impact upon so many lives.

A member of the United States Marine Corps, one of the most respected combat units in the world, and, if the rumors are to be believed, a former member of the Hells Angels motorcycly gang (with the broken pinky's to prove it), he led an amazingly diverse life before settling down to teach.

A man who you could easily see as being a Hells Angel (Big, strong, bushy beard, and these intense eyes), he was a kind man with, as the saying goes, a heart of gold. He had patience with his students, knowledge of his field, and pride in his past. He started the Heritage Club for the purpose of preserving the history of Morristown High School (which has existed since the 1800's) and began a program for the students to raise and lower the school flag every day (We are currently the only school in the state which has the students do the flag). He was always willing to give extra help to students in trouble, even if they weren't his own. He even worked hard to keep the image of the school fresh, spending hours every week washing graffiti off the walls and picking up trash.

Though I only had him for one class (U.S. History) his left a lasting impact. When he died the world lost a man of rare caliber and high quality. Farewell Mr. Beaver, you shall be missed.
