Was going to do this when I got off work but have a free minute here at work. Seems oldest is coming off his special duty with the State Dept as an Embassy Guard...says he's requested for Permament Change of Station Orders to Iraq...he's a E-5 (Sergeant) and says his place is making sure the young Marines get home to their families. He's asked me as a Clan elder to seek out the Aniwodi (sorcerers/healers) and have his duty blessed by the Gods.

He said.."Dad..you went back to make sure your kids got home, how can I do any less then you..if I can get one kid home it'll be worth it"....what a boy huh...busting with pride here..I will remember to sacrifice to the Gods this weekend when I'm at prayer..May his enemies know fear at his footsteps and tremble at his warsong.

I'll keep your eldest in my prayers, Salishe, and I hope he comes back safe, sound and soon.

Salishe, I'm confused, I thought Aniwodi was one of the Cherokee clans???
and I believe you are about the first native I've ever heard refer to the great spirits as Gods, and I've been to many POWOWs throughout North America???

Just wondering.

Oh well, may Glooscap smile on your eldest and guide him home safely.

Thanks Berk...appreciate it..I am not worried for him...he will acquit himself well in battle..he is AniWahya..a line of warriors unbroken since before we became part of the United States..and should Grandfather Creator take him....I will know he has earned his place in the Darkened Lands...

Joseph....the AniWodi.i.e...the Paint Clan are one of 7 Clans in traditional Cherokee affiliation, they are the healers...the sorcerers..they have the sight within sight and the knowledge of ancient lore....they are the keepers of the mysteries..My family line are AniWahya..Clan of the Wolf, from which the tribe's War Chiefs, Peace Chiefs, and hunters are derived. as for the references toward Gods..and or Spirits..there are 25 major players in the pantheon of Cherokee dieties..since they take multiple forms and exist on multiple levels..spirits can be said to be those Gods who have taken a singular role in the Great Circle...wish I could elaborate...it's not my domain of knowledge.

As for my boy....he will not fear his death if called but meet it with honor, but his return will be just as desired.

OK, thanks for the info, I freely admit that I know far to little about the Cherokee, as you say, not my domain. I probably know as much about your tribe as you do mine.

Anyway, my best to you and yours, and may your eldest do your clan proud.

I truly hope your son returns safely to you, and that he is able to return the sons and daughters of others to their parents as well. I'm doing everything I can to get them out of Iraq too.

Well, excuse my ignorance, but I never knew that Salishe is a Native American. I'm very honoured to talk to my first Native American I have met. :D

May God bless your son through his journey!

First I would like to express my appreciation to your son for his heart of service.

I hope his duty assignment allows him to fulfill his vision and he and his "kids" come home safe after a successful tour.

I wish him continued clarity, strength of body and heart with which he will not only endure but will be victorious in his mission.
